February 9, 2007:
Okay, with only two exceptions, everything on this website was written by a single person, myself, William E. Steinman. When not using my own name, I use one of the above pseudonyms. I first began my adventure in writing and publishing way back in 1994 when I began writing my first book, “The Wesoomi Gardening Journal.” If you notice the date on this essay, you may realize how much time I have invested in this effort to be a successful published writer. I am nothing if not bullheaded.
That beginning was really something of an accident. I had graduated from Ford Motor Company in 1992 with enough in the way of pensions to get by. That my wife continued to work until she too could draw a pension helped a great deal. At that time, I only knew I had to do something. I am not a competitor in the rocking chair rodeo and I never will be. At first I was considering becoming an inventor, since I could see a large number of flaws in the way we do things.
In the meantime, I had begun gathering up my gardening notes and organizing them into a guide. When I mention this effort to a friend, she allowed as how she would like to have a copy of that set of notes. I thought about that and that is how “The Wesoomi Gardening Journal” was born. Out of that effort came Wesoomi Publishing. From then to now has been an interesting ride. That ride is somewhat documented in my Writing and Publishing series of essays.
Now I am at the point where I see major flaws in our society, mainly due to the ongoing conspiracy between government and big business. The evidence is everywhere if you care to look. In fact, all you need do is watch the evening news. I have thought a great deal about that, and I am now in the process of writing what I call my philosophy series of books.
Since I am writing what can be called my philosophy, some folks are sure to ask what makes me the expert? What are my qualifications? The short answer is, I am singularly unqualified, however, there is a bit more to it than that. I once spelled this out in a response to a request from a reader. I have concluded that others may have an interest in my credentials or lack thereof.
By credentials, I am talking about my qualifications to write, advocate, and criticize, because that is what I do. I am happy to report I have none. By any academic, official, or formal standard, I am singularly unqualified. I have no wish to mislead anyone about that. I have no need to do that. However, allow me to carry this discussion a bit beyond that naked fact.
About my academic qualifications, I have a technical diploma in electronics. I have also taken a very large number of classes and intense seminars, all of a technical nature. However, I have no formal degrees of any kind. In fact, I owe my faculty for independent thinking to that lucky accident. I did not waste a great deal of my time in universities getting my head filled with nonsense by liberal professors who have no real work experience. So, my formal education is limited indeed.
My real education came from two other sources. First was that good old school of hard knocks. I acquired a degree of audacity from that school. As you may know, the penalty for failure in that school can be quite grim. Worse yet, there is often no reward at all for passing. You just get by; and yes, “With a little help from my Friends.”
The second part of my education came from intensive, unsupervised reading. In that, I have had some of the finest tutors in the world. In no particular order, here are a few of the minds which have nurtured mine. Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, John Steinbeck, Gurdjieff, Hemingway, Abraham Maslow, Edgar Allan Poe, Carl Rogers, Harvey Jackens, William Shakespear, John Locke, Rene Descartes, Voltaire, Rousseau, Hobbes, Jefferson, Fritz Perls, Ram Dass, Mark Twain, and Robert Frost.
As to my biography, it is no secret. I have been around the block more than a few times. Born in 1930 at the height of the Great Depression, my life began in struggle. In 76 years I have been, at various times, an auto mechanic, dockhand, assembly line worker, electronic technician, engineer, computer programmer, and systems analyst. Of course, I served honorably in the United States Army, 7th. Infantry Division as a Non‑Commissioned Officer during the, so-called, Korean Conflict. About that, I can only say, they shot at us and we shot back. I received my release from the army in 1953. Since I began Wesoomi Publishing I have written and published nine books. To accomplish all of these things, I had to rise above an almost overwhelming inferiority complex. I documented some of that in the first book of my philosophy series, ”Will-Yam in the Land of Giants.”
To find out more than that about me, you must read “The Gaffers Shorts.” In a very real sense, that set of short pieces expresses who and what I am. Back to About Wesoomi
