Back to the Forum Archives This essay is to begin presenting my understanding of how I can get in touch with the reality of this universe. By this universe, I mean the one I have long believed was the real McCoy in spite of the traditionalist's views. Recently I have learned what I have long believed is also what our subatomic physicists are finally discovering. Before I get into that, I want to say a bit more about healing. The discussion of faith healing will lead me into my discussion of consciousness raising and the understanding of how it all works. The key to this is the belief that faith healing works because the universe is fluid and because, with understanding and will, we can manipulate that fluid universe. I have already said there is nothing about deserving in all of this healing, but I must emphasize it to make my position clear. Faith healing is not about earning or deserving. It is about an exercise of will, of controlling energy. Earning and deserving go with mythologies like Christianity and Islam, not with science and understanding. Understanding gives us the power we need to do what we wish. We need not grovel when we understand. We can act for our own good instead of begging for crumbs from the priest's table. There is no mythological morality in this. The morality is in the seeking and striving for understanding, reaching for the best that is in us, the best we can be. There is no morality in groveling. I believe and my experience bears out that self healing is possible. With understanding of how our universe is really configured, a human can manipulate the one universal energy field through an effort of will. We can direct the flow and shape of energy to cause it to manifest in a healing way. For example, I have already caused healing in my heart to remove the poisonous substance Vioxx from my system. Now, I should be able to regenerate the damaged cones in my macula and restore my sight. When I first began working with this, I used imaginary visualization to aid my effort. After some effort, I have found at a certain point this visualization becomes superfluous. I will be more comfortable working more directly by visualizing the energy rather than visualizing some hokey little gardeners. So far, I have dealt with these concepts for their value in self healing, but I have not looked at the larger issue. That is the idea of consciousness raising. To get at that, I must review some of the concepts brought to light by the great psychologist, Carl Jung. In particular, I want to point out his thinking on the human unconscious. This idea of an unconscious was first put forth by Sigmund Freud in his pioneering work in human psychology. He saw this unconscious as a emotional dumping ground where we hid, from ourselves, all of the stuff we did to want to know about. Jung, who was at first a student of Freud carried this idea of a human unconscious forward. In is work, he did not see the unconscious as just a dumping ground. He also saw it as a storehouse of memories and archetypal imagery, the stuff dreams and creativity are made of. From his ongoing investigations and discoveries he ultimately expanded on this unconscious idea to define what he called a collective unconscious. As I understand it, he saw this collective unconscious as a racial repository of knowledge, imagery, and wisdom. That is the myth and archetypal stuff that an entire race or culture has built up. In my own thinking, I find the label, unconscious, for all of this phenomena to be an unfortunate choice. In my mind, this unconscious can be viewed more as a super-conscious rather than an unconscious. I see it in relationship to what we can call the ego-conscious, I, or ego-self. This ego-self is what we think we are. We see ourselves, not as part of a whole, but as a separate entity, independent of all other beings. In relation to that, the super-conscious is a state of being or awareness, wherein we realize it just ain't so. We are not separate. We are a part of a unified whole. Now our physicists have to a large extent confirmed that idea. In previous work, I have called this state of awareness a state of God Awareness. This is, I think, identical with the state that some of the Eastern spiritualist call Nirvana or Brahman. I believe, and here is my point, it is also identical with a state of super-consciousness. That state is identical with what Jung called the collective unconscious. It is, in fact, a state of total awareness. When we achieve this level of awareness, we are in touch with the super-conscious, which encompasses the entire universe and everything in it. We are in touch with the one universal energy field. It is not God, but it seems to have some of the same properties. The difference is, we need not worship it, we can aspire to becoming it. We can aspire to achieving a continuous state of God Awareness. I also believe this universal energy field that science has discover is identical with or similar to what I call the life force. I have preciously defined this life force as a force, much like gravity, which operates in the universe. This force acts to initiate what we know as life and it also has a direction toward more complex life forms. It has an evolutionary trend toward higher life forms, such as homo sapiens. Now, just so we don't depart too far from reality here, let me condition this discussion. We do not know if what I now call super-consciousness is identical with the universal energy field. We do not know that the life force is identical with either of them. I am sure these three forces exist. Jung tells us about the super-conscious, which he calls collective unconscious. Our sub-nuclear physicists tell us about the one universal energy field. I have surmised the life force from the existing evidence. How they relate to each other, we do not know. They could simply be different aspects of the same basic force or one could be a manifestation of the others and so on. I really doubt they are separate phenomenon. I believe we will eventually discover they are all manifestations of a single phenomena. Well, that's just swell! So what? How does all of that moon-dust theory change anything? I hope to answer those questions in my next essay, "Getting
There 2."
