Getting There 4:
By William E. Steinman:
November 7, 2005:

In Getting There 3 I mentioned the unusual result which have come out of my meditations. This is about insights and ideas I have had. The truth is, most of my insights are now coming to me during my meditations. This kind of screws up the goal of meditation, since I must stop to record the insights. Even so, the insights are a good result and the self healing, if it works, will make meditation worthwhile even if I never achieve God Awareness.

I believe these insights I get are a result of my being at a less than complete state of super-consciousness. It's like a border event. I believe, as I open inward to the soul-self and calm down, I touch on brief instances of super-consciousness and these ideas and truths come to me. You may think it's BS that comes to me, but that is just a matter of perspective. I find it useful. In fact, a large part of my book, "A Place to Stand," is developing out of the understanding I am gaining from these insights I experience.

In one way of seeing it, at some level I am always super-conscious. The problem is not in achieving the state because I am always there. The difficulty is in bringing the ego-self to the same level as the soul-self. The soul-self is always connected. So what I would like from my meditations is to achieve a synthesis of the three levels of consciousness such that in my ego-self I am aware of my soul-self and of being super-conscious. Instead of just being aware of myself with it's body and ego-consciousness, I become aware of the entire universe. I don't have to leave my body to do this. Super -consciousness is not a place but a level of awareness. I cannot make that point often enough.

In the West we tend to have the engineers mindset which insists that we see the universe, including ourselves, as a bunch of unrelated separate things that can be measured and quantified. We think of God as being out there and of Heaven as a place to go, like Toledo. In order to be creative, we cannot think that way. In order to heal ourselves we cannot think that way. We must know the universe with the creative artist or Eastern mystic mentality, which embraces the universe as a fluid ever changing whole with nothing separated from any of it. Not even the creative artist is separate, nor is the engineer, though he believes he is.

There is no dichotomy between science and honest religion or spiritual seeking.
We are both seeking understanding and truth. It is the religious fools pretending they already have truth in the revealed word of God or some such nonsense that create the dichotomy. What they do is inherently evil whether they intend it or not. It forces a dichotomy where none really exists. As it was in the dark ages, so it is still. There can be no dichotomy between honest seekers of truth.

In Western language there are no good words to speak of the concept of super-consciousness because everything that we say and think is prefixed by "I". In super-consciousness there is no "I". There is only one. The word, "I" instantly separates us into separate entities, but the universe is a single universal fluid energy field. It is not magic or separate. Almost everyone except Christians, Muslims, and Hebrews understand and agree on that. The people who disagree are those who cause most of the wars in the world and those wars are always about mythology and theology.

What this energy field view of the universal reveals to me is I am responsible for my own awareness, health, and recovery. This means you are responsible for your own awareness, health, and recovery. No one else is. You are responsible for your own power. No one else is. You must make the decisions and you must do the work. If something is not working, it is you who must decide to stop doing it and try something else.

Just so I do not create the wrong impression, I do not believe the Eastern mystics have any better handle on these concepts than do the Christians or even the scientists. The Easterner's have it wrong. Nirvana or whatever they want to call it is not reached by abandoning the ego-self. It is not achieved be pretending the whole world we see is an illusion. That is silly. I believe the state of God Awareness or Nirvana must be a synthesis of the ego-self, the soul-self, and the super-conscious-self.

I need not suppress the ego-self. I do not want to overcome anything. What I want to do is form a synthesis of the three levels of consciousness so they are always operative. Then the ego I is not in charge. No one is in charge. It's all one. There is nothing to be in charge of and nothing to be in charge. For sure, I am not at that level of consciousness, nor is anyone I know. We all still live in the Newtonian world of gravity and things.

So, I must honor this body, this life, this condition and do what needs to be done at this level. In this life I am in a condition of separateness. I need not pretend I an not. I must honor what I am and do what is appropriate to that. We should honor what we are while understanding that the game is much bigger than the one we perceive. There is an underlying field which supports our perceived universe and is invisible to us. It is not a field of chaos as some simpering sophomores want to suppose. It is a field of beauty and symmetry where opposites complement each other and merge into unity. While understanding that, we can still fulfill and honor the role we are given to play.

Anything else at this level would be silly. The Eastern attempts to make the ego and the world disappear are silly. The Newtonian, Euclidian world in which we find ourselves is not an illusion. It is simply a different level of perception. It is the level that most of us occupy. We re not yet evolved to pure mind or to Homo Deus. Denying the reality of this world is ridiculous.

Conversely, having some imaginary God out there is equally ridiculous. The Western attempt to deny the soul-self and super-conscious are equally silly. There is no God out there. There is nothing out there. There are no others anywhere. The collective unconscious is not out there. Super-consciousness is not a thing, it is a state of awareness. When I an super-conscious, all connections are made and there is only one. I am truly not separate. I am in a very real senses, Homo Deus. Homo Deus is not to be worshiped, but to be achieved.

Now, just to look aside for a moment, it is interesting, perhaps profound that the three levels of consciousness in some ways coincide with the Catholic concept of the trinity. In one case we have the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This can correspond neatly with the ideas of the Super-conscious, ego-self, and soul-self. Metaphorically at least, the Catholic idea of the trinity can be seen as these different levels of consciousness. Whether the had that in mind or not we will never know, but it is one possible explanation of that mumbo-jumbo.
