Wishes 2003:
If wishes were dishes, I'd be a china shop.
January 6, 2003:
Last week I reconfirmed my own resolutions for the coming year.
They are my personal plans and wishes for maintaining my own self
respect, an interest in life, and a sense of humor about it all.
That was for me. This week, just as I did last year, I would like
to talk about what I wish for my world and the folks in it. That's
all of you. The good, the not so good, and the down right mean.
I have hopes and wishes for everyone. Some of these are the same
as last year. Some are new. I also removed some of last year wishes
and created addendums to others.
First and most important, I wish for a real cure for AIDS.
I don't want a therapy or a drug cocktail which will prolong life
by mitigating the damage. Those are good, in that they are better
than nothing, but they are not good enough. I want a complete
and final cure. This cure should include a simple preventative
tool or method. I believe in science. Scientists did it for Polio,
they did it for Smallpox and I know they can do it for AIDS. It's
a matter of investing the resources.
I wish our scientific community would give their attention
to the real needs of humanity.
It really makes me angry to see scientific research funds being
wasted to grow hair on bald, vain, stupid men. I'm totally bald
and its really okay. It's okay with Mrs. Gaffer and all of my
friends. It jerks me off to see funds being dibbled away to give
emotionally and intellectually dysfunctional men an artificial
sexual function. Is that really what life is about? Quit being
dishonest and your hardware will probably start to work naturally.
I also wearies me to see funds being spent on methods for making
more babies when we already have millions of hungry unwanted children
in this world. I get particularly angry to see physicians helping
rickety egomaniacal old broads have babies that they will not
be able to care for. We don't have research dollars to waste.
It is not only the AIDS epidemic which is left wanting. There
is enormous research work to be done in, Alzheimer's, Cancer,
Heart Disease, Stroke prevention and recovery, and countless other
areas of real human suffering.
I wish Bill Gates would fix all of the dysfunctional software
he has foisted off on us before he tries to market any more new
software.
On this, the justice department has failed. They let him off.
I believe he'll be back to his old tricks pronto.
I wish Linux would evolve into a viable operating system.
I wrote about this before. I think Corel and Adobe can do it and
I think they have an obligation to do it. I think their management
simply lacks the courage and integrity.
I wish Jessie Jackson would become religious.
I wish the internet, so called, search engine operators would
go back to doing what they started out to do.
I would like to see them stop selling priority listings and actually
show search results. I wish they would stop partnering with the
big vendors and stop systematically obscuring most of the information
from information seekers.
I wish Americans could be persuaded to stop using drugs.
I know it's dumb, but spending billions of dollars and numerous
American lives trying to stop drug trafficking is even dumber.
As long as Americans want drugs there will be drug traffic. It
cannot be stopped. There are not enough people or money to stop
it. There never will be. I would much rather see that effort going
into realistic treatment and educational programs. "Just
say no!" is not enough. That's not a program, it's a copout.
Our government is still failing in this area.
I wish the HMO industry would get so honest that our government would not want to bother regulating it.
I wish everyone in the world had enough to eat.
I wish that no one would ever go te bed hungry, or cold, or frightened
again. The thing that is sickening about this is that there is
enough food. There really is no shortage. There is an enormous
shortage of human decency. There are locally powerful, evil people
with territorial and power goals who are in the way of feeding
and caring for millions of desperate people.
I wish Michigan's Governor Eingler was not funnier that Jessie
Ventura.
I think this has worked out better. The new governor elect Granholm
seems to be somewhat less boorish.
I wish the arms makers of the world would stop supplying Croatia,
Ireland, and the Middle East.
Let them fight with sticks and stones if they wish.
It is said that the times produce the man. I wish Russia would produce a man or woman of the times to lead them out of chaos and into a viable democracy.
I wish the same for China.
I wouldn't even care if they had dumbocracies like ours.
I wish George would stop trying to substitute the very visible Saddam Hussein for Bin Laden and just admit that he bungled the Afghanistan situation.
I wish that someone would bring Mohamed Bin Laden and all of his officers to the final bar.
I wish the United States Government would commit for the long
haul by putting a military governor in Afghanistan and keeping
him there until those people can create a viable democracy.
A coalition of bandit chiefs is not a good solution. When we put
something like that in place and go away, we have failed. They
have simply reverted and that country has again become a breeding
ground and hiding place for terrorists.
I wish all of the worlds religions would stop pretending that
they have a complete explanation and complete understanding of
the divine mystery.
I wish they would stop teaching bigotry, fear, and mistrust.
I wish all kids would be nurtured by their parents, to the
point that they could not even conceive of committing murder.
I also wish people would stop muddying the water with ill conceived
easy solutions. The issue is not guns. Focusing on the guns is
stupid and wasteful of energy. The tools of choice are irrelevant.
This issue is criminal pathology in children. It's the cause of
that which we need to address. We need to investigate the problem,
find what causes it, and act to prevent it's occurrence. When
we do that, we will find that the cause is lack or positive nurturing.
Parents must come to realize that nurturing is not something you
can buy at Toys R' Us.
I wish that everyone who wanted one could have a garden.
I wish people who hate to cook would stay out of the kitchen.
I wish the major corporations of the world would stop polluting our water and soil.
I wish for a human colony on the moon and another one on Mars.
I also wish for a better way of getting people into space rather
the having them sit on the ends of huge bombs and blowing them
off.
I wish everyone in the world had one good friend they could count on.
I wish the government would put Ken Lay in prison even though he has friends in the administration.
Finally, peace on earth, good will to and from all people.
