It Doesn't Matter V048:
By Willie Gaffer:
July 10, 2006:

Devos, Granholm, it doesn't matter. My decision on Devos was premature. I thought he would be a better choice I was wrong. Neither of these fools can help Michigan. They both sing buffo. They talk, talk, talk, but they don't say anything. They are both ignoring the two most important issues, crime and education. Neither of these fools can see the relationship between these issues and the economic situation in Michigan. They both shoot off their mouths about Michigan's great labor force. They both overlook the fact that industry no longer needs common labor. They need skilled trades and lots of them. Not semiskilled, but skilled.

Devos is still a one issue candidate, that being the single business tax. He says he is going to create jobs, but he does not say how. He says Michigan loses another job every ten minutes. So what? What are you going to do about it? This guy does not even talk about education. He talks about training. I suppose that means training people to do jobs which may or may not exist. Yo don't make a skilled tradesman with a couple of months of training. It takes years even for those who have the basic education. Too many of our kids do not have that basic education. They do not even qualify for advanced training. Many of them cannot do arithmetic. They cannot even run a cash register. How are they going to learn how to set up and run an automatic milling machine?

Granholm talks about education, but she doesn't do anything different about it. Nothing is changing for the better. What is being done does not work. We still have about half of our kids who never graduate from highschool. Granholm wants to give four grand to every family with a graduating highschool senior. It's to finance advanced education. That's a nice pipedream. Where will she get that kind of money? Michigan is bankrupt. She claims she has found a way to pay for it. That's bologna. Who is she going to shortchange? Who is she going to rob? In the meantime, she is dong nothing about basic education. She has no plan for the kids who will never graduate from highschool. She probably thinks it's their own fault. Therein is the problem.

The Princess of Photo-op and the smooth talking pyramid beneficiary. It just doesn't matter. Granholm is proud of the fact that 85% of the states purchases are from Michigan based firms. Check out her jobs plan, www.thejosbsplan.com. She is still complaining about the mess she inherited. Get serious! She's had plenty of time to clean up that mess. So far, jobs are being lost in Michigan faster than they are being created.

No matter, DeVos doesn't have a better plan. He talks about one, but I have seen no specifics except to repeal the single business tax. He claims he is going to review government spending. Is that a plan? Not in my book. He also offers a handful of rinky-dink items like changing business hours for government offices. What will that change?

Devos is traveling all over Michigan and he makes ads about it wherein he tells us what the Michigan problem is. It's jobs, so he says. So what. We know employment is one of the problems. Why doesn't he tell us what he is going to do about it? I think it's because he does not have an answer. Like all political hacks, he is just hoping the economic situation will change direction while he is in office so he can take credit for it. Of course Granholm is hoping the same thing, but she has to stay in power to be able to take credit. Neither of them has a solution.

In fact, looking at her jobs plan, you will see that Granholm is running against Bush instead of DeVos. She is talking mostly about national issues. It just might work. The rabble are dumb enough to fall for it. Right now it is fashionable to hate Bush and to blame him for everything. Why not run against him? From Granholm's standpoint it must look better that running on her own record, which is non-existent or silly. Her cool cities imitative where she gives grants to cities to build fountains in the town square and other inanities is one example of silliness. The idea is to attract young people to the city. What will attract young people is jobs. How is a fountain going to create jobs in that city? No way!

Granholm continues babbling about national issues which she cannot possibly affect. One of her favorites is about jobs going to other countries. She could stick to local issues if she had any sense. She could, if she tried, affect the local environment for small business. Right now Michigan is hostile to small business. She is too busy sucking up to big business to notice that. No one seems to notice that big business grows out of small business. No one seems to notice that the established big businesses are stagnate and cannot provide new jobs.

DeVos pretends to be sensitive to small business and perhaps he is, but let us remember he is a big businessman. He is a very wealthy person who can afford the TV ad saturation coverage he is dumping on us. Pretty much all of his wealth came from the Amway caper his father ran. He inherited and still runs that operation. He is spending way more to become governor than he could ever hope to earn as governor. Why is he doing that? Do you really think he is that public spirited. That's to laugh!

On another front, both of these buffoons are pushing Ethanol as a boon for Michigan. Both of them pretend to not notice that Ethanol costs more to produce than gasoline. They pretend to not notice that government subsidies make up the difference. They don't care because the rabble don't care. The rabble can't do arithmetic and figure out they will have to pay for thee difference through taxes in the long run.

As I said in the beginning. Devos, Granholm, it doesn't matter! They are both dishonest and, I believe, unperceptive, perhaps even stupid. They are appealing to the rabble because that is how to get elected in America. Even so, they could be honest and tell the rabble the truth. The truth is, Michigan is in deep crap because our educational system stinks and we have crime out of control. We can understand why more than half the people who are eligible do not bother to vote. I wish there were an alternative.
