Carmella Sabaugh V060:

By Willie Gaffer:

October 2, 2006:

Last week I was discussing the Democratic candidate for Michigan’s Secretary of State. I finished with these questions after listing her positions as copied from her website. So what would you expect? Can we believe it? Will it matter?

Perhaps we can learn something from her negative statement on Land.

Carmella Sabaugh has a record of accomplishments. Compare it with Terri Lynn Land’s record. Terri Lynn Land talks about what she will do and some of her proposals are good. But compare what Terri Lynn Land has actually

done to what Carmella Sabaugh has actually done, and then decide which candidate deserves your vote. Then she goes on to list a number of alleged previous achievements in other offices she occupied.

If you really want to do the comparison, you must go to her website and read her stuff then do the same with Land. After that you must sort it our and make a decision as to the veracity of two opposing political ads. Good Luck! For starters, here is Sabaugh’s public service record and some background.

Elected to Warren City Council, 1975-1979

Elected Warren City Clerk in 1979

Served as Warren City Clerk for 11 years

Elected Macomb County Clerk in 1992

Re-elected as Macomb County Clerk 1996, 2000, 2004

Second highest vote-getter countywide in 2004

Past president of Macomb County Clerks' Association

Born Carmella Visconti August 3, 1938 in Detroit

Baptized at San Francisco Catholic Church in Detroit

Orphaned at age 8

Raised by aunt and uncle in Detroit

Graduated from Denby High School in Detroit, January 1956

Awarded a scholarship from the Detroit Board of Education

Attended Wayne State University

Warren resident, Michigan's third largest city

Mother of five children, all graduates of Warren Woods Public Schools and

Michigan colleges and universities

She was also honored as Italian American Woman of the Year in 2005 by the Italian Cultural Center.

After all of that, I still have the question, why did she wait so long to start her campaign? Is it an afterthought? Was she reluctant and then talked into it by Granholm or some other top dog Dem? Why have I not seen her on television? Is it a shortage of cash? I don’t know!

I know I don’t like Land and I have what I consider to be very good reasons for that. When push comes to shove I am sure I will vote against Land. However, that is not the same as voting for Sabaugh. With her late start and what appears to be a casual attitude, I am not convinced she will do what she says she will do. Everything the Dumbocrats do seems to be disorganized. Can she really be effective or will she simply continue the department and leave people like Bonner in power?

My personal take is, with a few notable exceptions, the Dumbocrats are simply inept. They will never have a better opportunity to acquire power and they cannot get their train on the track. They are more disorganized than an engineer’s desk with crap everywhere except where they need it. They are going off in all directions. If it were not so pitiful, it would be comical. Keystone cops can’t beat them.

I tried to help them combat Michigan’s Republican SOS. I think she is very vulnerable. She has put a lot of bunglers in positions of power. The department is reverting to what it was before Candice Miller. So what? Against this very vulnerable incumbent, the Dumbocrats have a relatively unknown person who seems to be very casual about getting into the campaign mode. For all practical purposes, Land is running unopposed. I guess it does not matter. Even if she beat Land would we just have a fool replacing a power monger?

The Republicrumbs have a philosophy. It is very simple. In essence it is to con the rabble while bringing power and wealth to the wealthy cronies of the Republicrumbs. I don’t like it, but it keeps them organized and focused. The Dumbocrats do not have a clearly stated philosophy. In fact, their operating philosophy and MO is complete chaos.

Now, here is the downside to my effort to help thee fools. They put my email address on their spam list. So far I have received three huge bologna emails from them. They want me to donate money and work for them too. Hah! If I had money or time to give away, I would sure not give it to any political hacks. I would give it to my kids. I’m sure the garbage will continue, but I will treat it the way I treat all other spam. I will not download it. I will delete it on the server.

I sure wish there was a real choice, but the choice is between fools and charlatans. I can’t run for every office myself. I am running, as best I can, for governor. I don’t expect to win even there because the rabble are just that, rabble. They will probably elect DeVos and Land. Take Engler, Granholm, or Devos, and it does not matter. Nothing changes. We just sink lower and lower into the quagmire. Sigh!
