Chocolate Cherry Glaze Cake:

Here is one of my favorite holiday recipes. Making this cake takes time and patience. Don't have disappointing results. Read the directions over before you try to make it. Make sure you have all the ingredients at hand.
What you need. What you do.
1 egg. 3/4 cup milk. 1 cup granulated sugar. 4 oz. baker's chocolate. In a sauce pan, beat the egg into the milk. Add the sugar and the chocolate. Heat to melt the chocolate. Bring to boil, then allow to cool.
3/4 cup margarine. 1 & 1/3 cup granulated sugar. 1 & 1/4 tsp. vanilla. 3 eggs. In a bowl, cream the margarine with the sugar and the vanilla. Add the eggs, 1 at a time and beat them into the mixture.
2 & 1/2 cups cake flour. 1 & 1/2 tsp. baking soda. 1 tsp. salt. 1 & 1/4 cups
milk.
Sift flour, salt and soda together. Add alternately by thirds with the milk into the bowl and mix thoroughly. Add the chocolate mix and mix until blended.
Butter or margarine. Pour the batter in a 9 X 14 buttered cake pan and bake at 350 deg. for 30 to 35 minutes. Use a toothpick to test. Cake is done when the pick inserted in the cake comes out clean.
1/2 tsp. salt. Two 1 pound cans sour, pitted, water pack, red cherries. 1 cup sugar. 4 tbsp. cornstarch. In a sauce pan, mix the salt, cherries, cornstarch and sugar. Bring to boil and stir until juice begins to thicken. Cool the glaze and spread it over the cake. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
As an alternative. Prepare the cherry glaze just before serving the cake and spoon it hot onto individual servings.
