Here is a great party dessert:
What you need. What you do.
Two 1 lb. cans pear halves in natural juice (no sugar). Thoroughly drain the pears and reserve.
1/2 cup sugar. 12 oz. cream cheese. 1/2 pint chilled whipping cream. In a bowl, blend the sugar and cream cheese. In another bowl, whip the cream to stiff peaks. Fold the cream into the cheese mixture until well blended.
One 9 inch. baked pie crust. (Recipe in archive.) Arrange the pears on the crust and spoon the cream mix over the top. Refrigerate for 1/2 hour while making the topping.
2 cups frozen-thawed or fresh blueberries. If fresh, add 1/2 cup water. 1/2 cup sugar and 1 & 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch. Combine the berries, sugar and cornstarch in sauce pan and cook on med. heat until beginning to thicken. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Pour berries over the pie and refrigerate for 1 hour or more.
For a different desert, substitute fresh strawberries, bananas, or whatever will chill well for the pears. Substitute raspberries or other fruit for the topping.
