The Legend of Wesoomi:
Thirty-Six: Wesoomi's Ministry:
November 4, 2002:
On the morn following the final day of the council of elders Little Warrior departed for the village of the Bandar. He had need to set his warriors the task of preparing for the training and organizing of the many young men who would come to him in the following days. With him went his own warriors and the ten elders who would counsel him in the days to come.
Little Warrior knew it was a time to prepare. Crazy Wolf would not fail to bring evil to the nation. He would not waste time in his plotting. Whatever evil he planned would happen soon. Yet, Little Warrior knew he must needs lead the nation in other matters. It was time he knew to pass the mantle of leader of warriors. As chief, it was for him to pass duties to others and become the leader of leaders. First of these new leaders would be Hawk.
When he arrived in the Bandar village, he spoke to Hawk. He explained the outcome of the counsel of elders.
"Now, we must prepare," he said. Even as we train these new warriors, we must be watchful for the schemes of Crazy Wolf."
"Aye, Chief. "Even now, I have watchers at places about the wild country. We have no word of Crazy Wolf, yet we know of his mad will."
"We must needs keep our watch. I must pass that task to you. Indeed, I must pass all tasks of the leadership of warriors to you. I have counseled with the Elders on this matter. I have their assent. You will be chief of warriors."
"As you command, so shall it be, Chief."
So it came to pass that Hawk became Chief of Warriors and he set about the training and organizing of his men. While Little Warrior and Hawk prepared for the certain attack from Crazy Wolf, Wesoomi, in the village of the husbandmen, prepared for his ministry. He was still intent on beginning with the Fishermen. Soft Hand was still intent of serving Wesoomi in his ministry.
So, together, the two set out. They traveled Eastward to the shore of the Big Water, then Northward along the shore. As did Wesoomi, so Soft Hand wondered at the unending power and variation of it. Each day, the water took a different nature as though it contained many different spirits. One day they arrived at the village of the Fishermen who drew their very life from this wondrous Big Water.
There, Wesoomi sat on a stone near the water and the villagers gathered around him. They brought him food and drink. He took what they offered and offered his thanks and gave praise to the Great Spirit. Then he spoke to the assembled people.
"The Great Spirit sends me to you. I bring you his words and his wisdom. He has seen that you have drifted away from him. You remember the words and the ceremonies he gave you, but you forget his love. Without his love, the ceremonies are like eating dry grass. You perform the ceremonies, but they do not nurture you. They leave you wanting. They leave you sore of heart.
"Know that the Great Spirit Loves you. Sing his praise. Sing these words as you feel his love in your heart.
"You, oh Great Spirit are my protector, my joy and my supporter in all things.
"I have sung to you and you have heard me. You lift up my heart.
"Though evil spirits surround me, I will have no fear, for you live in my heart.
"My peace is with you, oh Great Spirit, and your gifts come to all who know you.
"The light of you eye is upon me and you put joy in my heart.
"Open your ear to my praise, oh Great Spirit, hear my love.
"I raise my voice to your praise in the morn.
"I raise my voice to your praise in the day.
"Again I raise my voice to your praise in the eve.
"Each day I sing my praise and open my heart that you may fill it.
"Come into my lodge, oh Great spirit. I sing your praise in my lodge.
"I will sing your praise to all men.
"I will sing your praise at my work and at my rest.
"Oh Great Spirit, lead me away from error. Lead me into your way that I may serve you.
"I put my trust in you Great Spirit. My heart opens to your love."
As Wesoomi spoke, the Fishermen came nearer to him. They felt the power of his words. They felt the hand of the Great Spirit upon themselves and upon the crowd. They saw it in the eyes of Wesoomi and heard it in his voice. It was a time of great joy and peace. Then Wesoomi continued to teach them.
"The Great Spirit gives these words of wisdom and comfort.
"Let not your spirits be sad for there is a place for you in the domain of the Great Spirit.
"Be humble with your neighbors and you shall harvest the earth.
"When you have loss and your hearts grieve the Great Spirit will comfort you.
"Seek justice and the Great Spirit will give you justice.
"Have mercy for others and the Great Spirit will bring you his mercy.
"Keep your hearts clean and you shall see the Great Spirit.
"Seek peace with all people and the Great Spirit will receive you as his children.
"Seek justice even when others punish you and you shall enter the Domain of the Great Spirit.
"If others speak ill of you, rejoice in the knowledge of the Great Spirit and you shall find your place in the Domain of the Great Spirit.
"The Great Spirit will not forsake those who seek his wisdom and comfort."
The Fishermen, hearing these words, felt their hearts opening with joy and love. They drew nearer yet to Wesoomi who began to glow with the light of the Great Spirit's love and Wisdom. He continued teaching them then.
"The Great Spirit gives you these commands for proper acts and praise. Always follow these commands.
"I am the Great Spirit. I am the only Great Spirit. Do not give praise to any spirit except me. Make no images of things to praise and serve no spirits except me. Do not stray from me to others lest I forsake you.
"Always use my name in honor and praise and never use my name in jest or anger.
"Make each day a day of praise and hold to the special ceremonies I give you. Keep love in your hears as you celebrate.
"Honor your village and your neighbors.
‘honor your nation.
"Honor your parents and your ancestors.
"Honor your elders for with age comes the wisdom of experience.
"Do not slay another man.
"Do not abandon your mate and take other maidens.
"Do not take what is not yours, but is your neighbors.
"Do not speak evil or untruths of other men, but only speak truths.
"Envy not your neighbors success, but in it rejoice. The success of the smallest of the Great Spirit's people is the success of all.
After he spoke, the people began to come to Wesoomi. One went too kneel before him, but he would not allow it.
"You be the chosen messenger of the Great spirit," said one. "May we not worship you?"
"You must worship no man," answered Wesoomi. "I be like you, but a servant of the Great spirit. It is the Great Spirit we must praise, and only him. Sing his praise always. We may speak well of our neighbors, but we sing the praise only of the Great Spirit."
Then the people began to understand. They came to him then and he placed hands upon them. From his hands flowed the pure energy of the Great Spirit into the hearts of the people he touched. Each who touched him felt the joy of his love and went away satisfied. Some who came to Wesoomi had infirmities and illnesses. Then, when he placed his hands on them they were healed. They marveled and rejoiced at these miracles. Yet Wesoomi explained that the healing was the work of the Great Spirit.
"I am but the tool," he said. "The Great Spirit be the healer. He be the only healer. Always know this. All things flow from the Great Spirit."
When it was done, Wesoomi was sore and wearied. So weary was he that he fell into a deep sleep on the sand by the Big Water. Soft Hand sat nearby and kept watch over him.
Come morn, the Fishermen came to him with food and drink. Then he spoke to them again and repeated much of what he had said before. Again he touched each of them giving joy and peace to all. The Fishermen begged him to abide with them, but he could not. they brought him food and drink again, then he took his leave.
So it came to pass, that Wesoomi went with Soft Hand from village to village bringing the word of the Great Spirit and his love for all men.
