January 30, 2006:
Presidents:
It may be possible that all democratic presidents have been philanderers.
We know about many and we cannot be sure about the others. Perhaps
it is part of the liberal philosophy. On the other hand, all
republican presidents, I'm sure, wear a chastity belt that was
installed by a tough wife under the supervision of a fundamentalist
preacher. The invocation is, "Thou shalt not diddle."
That's why they seem to be forcing a smile all of the time. It's
not really a smile, it's a grimace.
A Different Kind of War.
If it were not for warfare, health maintenance would be and probably
should be the most costly part of our economy. If we took care
of everyone the way we expect to be taken care of, it would be
like waging a major war continuously. In fact, it really is a
war. It is a war for quality of life. It is the war we should
be waging.
Mentality:
A frequent occupational hazard for teachers is to acquire the
mentality of their students. Instead of attracting the students
toward a higher level of intellectual behavior, the teacher lowers
his own level to that of his students. This becomes particularly
tragic when a 50 year old man acquires the mentality of a teenage
kid. I have seen it a few times.
West Virginia:
Two more men are dead. The governor of that state said he has
had enough. No kidding? I suspect the relatives of those miners
think it is way too late for that kind of rhetoric. This mine
also has a history of blatant safety violations. Why wasn't it
closed years ago?
Nurses:
It seems there is a severe shortage. They say there will be a
shortfall of 1 million trained nurses in the near future. This
never would have happened, but for dishonest hospital administrators.
They drove people out of the profession by the thousands with
heavy handed management practices. Now all of us will pay the
price of that dishonesty.
Enemy of the State:
We watched a movie by that name last evening. I was involved
in technology for many years. I am sure, by now, the government
really does have that kind of technology. If Bush's thugs were
anywhere near as efficient and effective as they were portrayed
in that movie, we would all be in deep crap. The fact is, our
FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security, and FEMA have all
demonstrated that we have little to fear. These guys are a bunch
of dip-crap doober-daubers. And that's a true fact!
Deferred Gratification:
Many people are maxed out on credit. Personal debt is way beyond
anything reasonable. A large number of people owe so much that
a large portion of their income goes to just maintaining the
dept and paying the interest. They are literally giving away
thousands of dollars each year because they couldn't wait. Mrs.
Gaffer and I are not among them. My policy and Mrs. Gaffer's
is simple. If you want something, save the money to pay for it.
That is not always possible. When I first needed an auto to
get to work, I had to have it then and I bought one on credit.
We did the same with our first and second homes. We were also
compelled once by circumstances to take out a small household
finance loan. Even then, I was sorely grieved to see how much
of my income was being given away in interest. We payed off those
loans as quicky as we could and never charged another thing.
Because of that policy I drove a car so raggedy it became the
butt of many jokes. I always knew I would get the last laugh.
In fact, I have had many last laughs when I hear about these
poor souls I am supposed to feel sorry for who are thousands
and even hundreds of thousands of bucks in debt. The loan sharks
love it. They are collecting billions of bucks from the fools
who couldn't wait. The fools will die in debt.
In our short history, Americans always looked to the future.
We were about hard work and hope for our kids. That is no longer
true. We now have the gimmy-now, me-first, egocentric generation.
We stopped being about the future, excellence, and patience and
became about instant gratification and greed. It is selfishness
and greed instead of hope which controls us. In that game, the
kids get the short stick.
Kerry:
He was on the Stephanopolous show again. I hope the voters are
not as stupid as he thinks they are. Once again he talked all
around a direct question an never really answered it. He does
not have anything new to say. The Dumbocrats are going to have
to do better than that if they want to win in 2006. I hope they
do not run with him. He has already proven he is a loser. I fear,
once again, we will have to choose between a limp-luster liberal
and a police state madman. It should not be about Dumbocrats
and Republicrumbs, it should be about decency and indecency.
Of course, that would eliminate most politicians and bureaucrats.
Right to Life:
I would like to see this issue put to a national referendum and
end all the crap. These doctor murderers would have to give up
claiming they have widespread popular support. They would be
shown up as the noisy small-minority fringe nuts they are.
Research:
Who said, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself"?
When did he say it? Why did he make such a weird statement?
