February 6, 2006:

Iraq:
Now we learn from ABC news that our troops are detaining and threatening women in order to get at their husbands who are suspected terrorists. One of these victims was a woman who was nursing a 6 month old baby. May I ask, how are we different from the people who kidnaped Jill Carroll? Where is the line that separates us as good guys and them as bad guys?

Another Good Republican:
Chuck Yeager reveals himself as one of the few thoughtful politicians in Washington. He told George Stephanopolous that the energy crisis should become a modern Manhattan Project. It should receive the same kind of resources before it is too late. It may already be too late, but we should still try. Do you remember the Manhattan Project. For most youngsters, it is probably seen as ancient history. It was circa WWII. I was a kid at the time. Imagine that? The Manhattan Project was a 2 billion dollar effort that we put forth to build the first atomic bombs. These were the bombs that took out Hiroshima and Nagasaki to cause the unconditional surrender of Japan to the allied forces on August 14, 1945.

GM:
From the media we learn that they have lost some 8 billion dollars. Good Gord! How much money do they have? I would be distressed if I lost 8 dollars. Dinosaurs take a long time to die, but they do die. Wake up GM! Do something. Make a car that is unique. Make a car that someone can afford and wants. Except for the Caddie, which is grossly overpowered and overpriced, all of your cars look like the Taurus.

Meanwhile:
Fields is shaking things up at Ford. He may be successful. I hope he is, but he needs new products in addition to firing people and closing plants. As I guessed, some plant managers are already working against him. One plant has told employees they cannot park in the parking lot unless they are driving a Ford. The is nothing like having disgruntled employees when you want to turn out a quality produce. Good luck Fields. There is one thing we can be sure of. If Fields is successful, Ford will fire him. It's tradition.

Palestine:
Hamas won. Bad stuff. Hamas got to power by doing the same kind of things Castro and Guevara did in Cuba. They provided services for the peasants. It's simple stuff, education, medicine, and food. This is a time when we need a Solomon. Unfortunately all we have is George Bush. Oh my!

One Good Thing:
The senate managed to block the Alito Filibuster. He has been confirmed and sworn in. The vote was 58 to 42 for conformation. The limp-luster left could not get enough fools to join them. Go home Kennedy. You have not los it. You never had it. By being negative on everything, you make reasonable dialog impossible. You and Nuke-em-Newt belong in the same bag. Even Michael Moore and Rush Limbaugh are not a silly as you two are.

USPS:
We had another one of those frequent shoot ups at a mail processing plant in California. This former employee came in and shot a bunch of people then offed herself. If this kind of thing happened so frequently in any other business, congress would start an investigation. There is something terribly wrong in the USPS and no one seems to want to notice it.

Bettis:
He's very down to earth. What you see is what you get. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a president like that?

Jane Dana:
The military teamed her and her dog Rex and, of course, they bonded. They were a good team. Then she got shot up and was sent home. The army kept Rex. They said he was property. What crap! Congress had to pass a special law for her to get her dog back. I repeat, what crap! When you bond a person with a dog, that dog becomes part of that person's family. We should not need an act of congress to reunite a family. The army is just stupid, that's all. Army brass is crass!

Speaking of Dogs:
When I become God Emperor, we will have a four year police academy much like West Point. Each police cadet will be trained with a dog. That dog will then belong to that policeman when he graduates. The only thing that could separate them is the death of the dog. Then the cop will have the opportunity to train with another dog. Dogs, like some humans, are good friends. When a friend dies it is painful and we grieve for a time. Then, if we are healthy, we make new friendships. So it is with dogs and people. These highly trained cops will bring honor and dignity back to law enforcement. That's something it has lacked for a long time.

United Airlines:
These managers ran the company into the ground, into bankruptcy, and then gave themselves bonuses and raises. They said it was necessary to keep such great managers from leaving. This is not just bizarre, it is the epitome of madness. Those people are insane. This is the same thing the Delphi managers did, and the media reports it as though it were rational. Of course, our government is colluding with these criminals and allowing them to escape with the worker's and stockholder's money. When people fail, they should be punished not rewarded. Where is Skinner when we need him?

Mohammed:
Now the Arabs are all up in arms about a joke. It seems their great prophet has been characterized. So what? Are we supposed to take this guy any more seriously than we take the Hebrew thunder and lightning god? Why? It's all hooey. Come on, if you really believed in ths God, you'd be hiding in your basement. This Mohammed guy was allegedly the Arab prophet of Islam. At the age of 40 he began to preach as God's prophet of the true religion. He set up a theocratic state at Medina a long time ago and started to convert Arabs to Islam. I repeat, so what? So far as I can tell, a Mosque is just a hideout for gangsters and Mohammed is an imaginary character.

Conditional:
One of the worst things we do to our kids is make our love conditional on their performance. That's wrong. Rewards can be conditional on achievement. To have any value at all, our love for our kids must be unconditional.

Black Rose:
There is no such thing as a true black rose. Why is that? If you wee going to breed a true black rose, how would you go about it?
