March 6, 2006:

Stephanopolous:
McCain was on his show again. He still thinks we can make the mess in Iraq work. That country has been ruled by savages for centuries. Democracy is not going to sprout there in a couple of months. What will happen is civil war, sooner or later. The Sunni, the Shi'ites, and possibly the Kurds are going to fight. One sect will be annihilated. Another will rule. We cannot prevent that without a massive presence.

This Sunni, Shi'ite civil war in Iraq would be somewhat equivalent to the Baptists having a war against the Methodists in America. It's crazy to even think of that, but in Iraq, that sort of irrationality is not crazy. It's the norm. I have been wrong about these people. We have to face the fact that large numbers, perhaps a majority, of these Muslims are primitive, simple minded savages. How are you going to have a viable democracy under those conditions? They have the same holy book and the same God, but they are killing each other in the name of that God. They are insane!

For Allah:
If these guys want to die for Allah, I think we should do our best to accommodate them. How about a new slogan. "Off and Arab for Allah."

Chiselers and Crooks:
A sad fact of doing business of any kind is that you encounter deadbeats. I have had to deal with two different kinds. The easiest to deal with are the con men who pose as book reviewers. Their goal is simply to get a free copy of a book. This only happened to me once. It will not happen again because I will take the advice of Jim Cox of Midwest Book Review. It's simple. When the con man calls asking for a book I say, "sure. I'll be happy to send one. All I need from you is a formal request on your employer's letterhead." The fact is, legitimate reviewers will not have a problem with that. However, the con man is not likely to commit mail fraud just for a free book.

The other type is a bit more difficult. It has to do with delayed payment and nonpayment for merchandise. There is a common business practice by some small timers to make interest on their creditor's money. For the late payers, the solution is to demand prepayment before shipping. I had to notify Borders of my new policy toward them for that reason. Because of that, they will probably never order from me again, but that's life. Orders from Borders are not likely to make me wealthy.

Litigation:
We should do our best to avoid going to litigation. In court, the only winners will be the attorneys. Going to litigation empowers them to play their favorite game. That is the game of draining our resources into their pockets.

Musharraf:
I think I spelled that right. This guy is the boss of Pakistan. Some people claim he is covering for Bin Laden who is supposedly hiding out in Pakistan. They say he is not dong enough to capture the madman. Who know? How much are we doing? One thing's for sure. Bin Laden is not in Iraq. He could be in Afghanistan, but everyone seems to have forgot about that place. The mothers and wives whose men are being killed there have not forgotten.

Ideas:
Some jerks who wrote a mediocre book about religious stuff are suing Dan Brown for stealing their ideas. What crap! Ideas are ten cents the dozen. Everyone has them and most people don't do anything about them. These guys wrote a book about their ideas and it did not sell well. I think the suit is just a con to get notoriety for their book. Until then, no one had ever heard of it.

My Mistake:
Years ago, when I was a very naive 60 years old, I though, if only lots of women would manage to get into government, thing would change for the better. After all, women are more sensitive, more honest, and generally more meticulous than men. How wrong could a person be? Now a large number of women are in government. Pretty much every bureaucrat I have encountered lately has been a woman. Guess what? They ain't better. All the ones I have encountered are worse than their male counterparts. I guess, when a woman goes bad it's like everything else they do. There is no half way about it. I'll expect to get a bit of hate mail from this paragraph. Let it rip!

Flint Michigan:
We learned from our local news that a Flint police officer's starting salary is now $33,000 a year. That's up from $26,000 last year. Let me ask how in the hell we can expect to have good dedicated cops for less money than a dock hand makes? How can we expect a man or woman to put a silver target on their chest for that kind of insulting pay? It costs us almost 30 grand a year to keep a crook in prison, but we can only afford 33 grand for the cop who must risk his life to put him there. That is sick, sick, sick!

Bush:
He has gotten so far out of his depth that even he is beginning to realize it. You can see the puzzled expression on his face in pretty much evy closeup now.

The Church:
I never thought I would be on the side of the Church of Rome on anything, but I was wrong. Some bishops and priests are preparing to violate the law and go to prison rather than abdicate their duty to their parishioners. Big Brother now insists that they not give their priestly services to people unless they can show a green card or prove citizenship. This is a clear violation of the First Amendment to our Constitution.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

I'm with the church on this one big time. This could be the most evil thing this administration has ever done. You cannot have someone guarding the door of a church. Churches have been opened as sanctuaries for all men ever since mankind invented God. Only the most primitive and backward nations violate that principle of safe haven. I wish there really was a God so he could get Big Brother into Lucifer's caldron. Broiled bureaucrat for lunch. The blue plate special. Why not? It would probably taste like carrion!

A Puzzle:
Who is Antony van Leeuwenhoek? What did he do? Should he be famous? Why or why not?
