June 26, 2006:
Killing Muslims:
The 2 soldiers who were captured by the Muslims in Iraq were
tortured and butchered. The remains are being sent home. Meanwhile,
3 soldiers have been charged with murder for killing 2 unarmed
Iraqis. In another incident, 7 marines and a sailor were charged
with murder for killing another unarmed Iraqi. There are other
cases still pending. What's wrong with this picture? Have the
people who are charging these kids ever been in a war? I doubt
it. I don't think we have had a general in harms way since Patton.
Nowadays our generals sit on their butts and pontificate for
the media. None of them has ever seen the wrong end of a gun.
It's a good thing I'm not in Iraq. I'm a really bad tempered
guy. I might get careless about who I was killing and get charged
with murder too. If I saw someone who I thought was a threat
to me, I would probably preemptively kill him. If I saw someone
who I thought might someday become a terrorist I might kill him.
Why the hell are we in Iraq anyway? I thought Bush sent our kids
there to get even with the Iraqis for embarrassing his pop. Isn't
killing Muslims getting even?
Good One For Granolm:
Michigan is at least one state where the legislature and the
governor have taken a stand against religious fascists. Granholm
signed a bill into law to make it illegal for those swine to
interfere with the funerals of American servicemen. The penalties
are pretty steep. For the first violation the penalty is 2 years
in prison and 5 grand. If they are stupid enough to do it again
the penalty becomes 4 years and 10 grand. Works for me!
The Idiot Teen:
This emotionally immature Lester brat ran away from home to meet
a jerk in Jordan. If that 20 year old jerk had been in America
he would qualify as a internet predator. He would be going to
trial by now. He is Jordanian so he becomes some kind of frustrated
lover. The media are giving it the full Romeo and Juliet treatment.
They have been milking it for more than a week. This is a classic
example of the media's penchant for putting simple stupidities
completely out of proportion. It deserved no more than a short
paragraph on an inside page of a small newspaper.
Bad Fit:
I spent most of my life trying to figure out how I could fit
into this world. That was my mistake. We must refuse to accept
the world the way we find it. We must refuse to force ourselves
into the molds that are offered to us. We should not be trying
to fit in at all. We must open ourselves outward toward higher
consciousness. We must move away from conforming just to be safe
and take the risk of being who we are. Only through that can
we develop our own genius. Only through that can we grow toward
our destiny of becoming Homo Deus.
Wetbacks:
Illegal immigrants have become a big political football. In the
end, I suspect nothing effective will be done about them. The
truth is, we need them as much as they need us. They have become
an integral part of our economy. That's just the way it is. However,
I am given to wonder what could have been. Mexico gained it's
independence from Spain in 1821. What if instead of empire and
military governments Mexico had followed the American example?
What if they had created a true republic? What kind of country
would Mexico be now? What kind of neighbor would they be? I think
the whole world would have been enriched. Maybe that could still
happen if we give them a hand up.
Detroit:
Bungholes personified. They are going to demolish most of Briggs
Stadium. That is where the Detroit Tigers, a professional baseball
team, used to play. They have a new stadium now. Detroit owns
Briggs Stadium and they are going to tear it down. Out of the
kindness of their hearts they are going to leave one small symbolic
corner standing. Their plan is to keep the field as a park and
build apartments and shops around it where the stands are now.
That is exactly my plan except for one thing. In my plan the
surrounding structure (stands) would have been remodeled to become
the shops and loft apartments. What is this tear it down mentality
that grips our political hacks? Why must they first destroy in
order to build? That structure is older than those hacks who
want to destroy it. It is structurally sound and it has a natural
beauty all its own. It is unique and they don't even realize
that. Stupid! Beyond stupid!
NASA:
They are having an internal debate about the next space launch.
The Discovery is still not ready to fly, so they say. The question
they ask is, is it safe? For sure, we should do reasonable thing
to promote safety, but I think we have got kind of strange on
this safety issue. Let's be honest. There are risks involve in
exploration. That's why we call it exploration. It's never been
done before. It will never be safe. If it was safe we would not
need specially trained astronauts. George Bush could do it. Well,
maybe that's extreme. How about an eagle scout?
Imagine, if you would, that first voyage of Christopher Columbus.
It was in 1492 when he sailed the ocean blue, so we are told.
Supposing there had been a queen's minster of safety at that
time. The head of this government agency comes groveling into
the throne room and informs Isabella that the ships cannot sail.
The Niña, Pinta, and Santa María are not seaworthy
he reports. There is a danger that some planking will come lose
and foul up the rudders. Without proper steering the ships could
run aground and sink. We just can't let them go. What would the
queen say. She would say, "Off with this fool's head. I've
got a king's ransom invested here. Those ships are sailing. Get
with it!"
China:
We saw some TV footage of China where it looked like a Mexican
slum. They are learning the great advantages of industrialization
first hand. They are choking on their own factory sewage and
exhaust fumes. They burn more coal that the rest of the civilized
world combined.
Collaboration:
The US Postal service is cooperating with mail order firms to
deliver contraband cigarettes to minors. Of course, the noble
American Indians are also involved. It seems they can sell cigarettes
tax free on their reservations. So, the sell them to kids on
the internet and ship them via USPS. The three major private
carriers have refused to help them. Never mind that. The USPS
steps up to fill the gap. I think I have enough stuff to write
a book about the dishonesty of the USPS. All I need is the time
to write it.
