July 24, 2006:
Still Pushing it:
It has been conclusively proven that Ethanol is not economically
viable and never will be. So what? It's still good politics in
Michigan. The Princess of Photo-op and the Prince of the Pyramid
are still pushing Ethanol production as a key issue. Never mind
that millions children are starving to death. Let's destroy food
to propel Detroit's kludge-built inefficient machines.
The Strange Season:
I recently received a phone call which I allowed my machine to
answer. I have learned to do that to avoid interruptions by peddlers
and other fools. This one was a new one on me. It was a political
message informing me that this nutcase wanted to honor me as
a leader of the year. I thought, maybe my dog turned me in. She's
the only one who is fool enough to follow me. Even if it was
legit I'd a soon be honored by a leper as a politician. I suspect
what they really were after is a cash campaign donation. If I
had money to give away I would give it to my kids. The only thing
I would want to give to a politician would be, as my mother used
to say, a good dose of salts. Maybe that would clean them out
and bring them back to reality.
Hezbollah:
Israel and Lebanon are at war. It seems the government of Lebanon
did not want a war, but they were unable to control the Hezbollah
mob. These madmen control Southern Lebanon and have used it as
a base to harass Israel. Israel has responded with force and
a state of war exists. It's the Lebanese civilians who are taking
the brunt of this. In it's savage zeal, Israel is being wantonly
destructive of Lebanon, it's infrastructure, and it's civilians.
The question is, why could the Lebanese not control their
own country and keep the Hezbollah mob from taking over? They
had to know what would happen. There is a similar situation in
Gaza. There a mob calling itself Hamas is in control. There is
no excuse in Gaza. The Palestinians actually voted these murderers
into power knowing full well what they would do. The media calls
these mobs militant. Militant is too wimpy a word. In fact, they
are madmen murderers. Their first goal is the murder of all Jews.
Their second goal is the destruction of Western Civilization.
We should not be confused about that. These are not people we
can negotiate with. They intend our destruction.
Another Thing:
Why is it that every nation except the United States had already
got it citizens out of Lebanon? What it this great inertia that
bogs us down on all sides? We used to be ahead of everyone else.
Now we are usually behind the rest of the civilized world. How
did that happen? One good thing about this is Israel seems to
have enough sense to not kill Americans. They are laying off
the bombardment where the Americans are finally being evacuated.
It's not that I have a great deal of sympathy with fools who
choose to vacation in the Middle East. To me that is equivalent
to vacationing in London during the buzz bomb blitz. Even without
this new Hezbollah crap, that area has always been a war zone.
Even so, America has a tradition of protecting her citizens,
even the stupid ones. We don't have many of the other kind. Hopefully,
by the time you read this, all Americans will be at least as
far away as Cyprus.
The Challenge:
God's agent on earth is being challenged. The Senate and House
have passed a bill to expand spending to support stem cell research.
The mad king has vetoed the bill. That will show the civilized
world where he stands. He will be revealed as the primitive minded
Luddite he is.
From Microsoft's Book shelf:
Luddite (lùd´ìt) noun
1. Any of a group of British workers who between 1811 and 1816
rioted and destroyed laborsaving textile machinery in the belief
that such machinery would diminish employment.
2. One who opposes technical or technological change.
Premature:
We get a statistic from the news media (always suspect) that
half a million babies are born prematurely each year. If true,
that is a 30 percent increase in premature births from 1981.
They tell us the increase is a side effect of infertility treatments.
These often cause multiple births which are much more likely
to be premature births.
The West:
We are suffering from a heat wave in Michigan. Well that's annoying,
but it is important to keep things in perspective. We don't have
it bad at all by comparison. The West is on fire again. The perennial
forest fires are raging out there. Did you ever wonder, with
this yearly conflagration, how there can still be forests to
burn out there? I have. Millions of acres burn every year, but
there are still more to burn. At any rate, I think we need to
find a better way to deal with forest fires. There are never
enough fire fighters and the methods don't seem to work well.
We depend more on lucky breaks in the weather than anything man
does. Perhaps some research into methods is in order.
The Big Dig:
In Boston, the land of dirty politics, that stupid tunnel is
finally being investigated. It only took the death of one woman
to get it started. It seems part of the structure built with
inferior material fell on her car and killed her. They will investigate,
but in Boston that don't mean squat. It will be hushed up and
criminal activity will go on as usual. The media guy told us
that tunnel, if it is ever finished, will cost us about 12 billion
bucks a mile. I though the outfit paving the road in from of
my house was padding the job. Crap, they are amateurs. They should
take Boston lessons.
I Told You So!
Gasoline hit $3.15 a gallon recently in Flint, Michigan. People
are bitching like all get out. You ain't seen nothin' yet! I
told you several months ago you would see $5.00 a gallon gasoline.
Now, some of you are starting to believe it. There is no end
to this. If you want someone to blame, you must go all the way
back to Jimmy Carter. That's when the looming problem became
very clear. We were, and still are, at the mercy of OPEC. They
did not like us then and they still don't like us. Think about
it. Civilization gives the lie to their way of life.
Under Carter is when we should have been acting to remove
ourselves from OPEC dependency. We did not. The immediate problem
went away and we all forgot about it. Now we are on the wrong
end of a tight leash and the noose is getting tighter. There
is no easy out. We can develop other oil resources, like oil
sands, for the short term. For the long term, we must do some
research. Civilization is dependent on cheap energy. We no longer
have cheap energy. We must develop it.
Fat Kids:
Once again the wonders of science come to the rescue. We have
a new solution for obesity in kids. We can drug them to kill
their appetites. They can take a pill in leu of a healthy life
style. There is not much in the way of side effects. Just sever
stomach cramps sometimes and a abnormal heart rate sometimes.
Ain't that swell? No discipline required. We have a pill for
everything, from limp tools to lard butts. To heck with the healthy
life style. Duh!
A Research Puzzle:
Who was Diocletian? What did he or she do? Find out and write
a two page paper about your research. Turn it in to your mother
or your spouse for evaluation and criticism. Don't send it to
me. I don't know how to read.
