Weekly Notes:

January15, 2007:

They Don’t Understand:

Saginaw, Michigan has a crime problem. They keep groaning and moaning about it. They keep on wanting to add more cops to get on top of it. At the same time, a large number of Saginaw’s kids do not graduate from high school. The government and the citizens cannot seem to make the obvious connection. Spending money on cops will not cure the problem. Spending money on education may, but it’s long term. All real solutions to real problems are long term. That’s why politicians ignore them.

Meanwhile, what does the local media do? They give daily coverage to the local school sports teams, especially basketball. If a kid gets good and gets onto Tom Izzo’s Michigan State team, he will be lauded to high heaven. How much coverage do they give to real education? Little to none! In a very real way, they promote ignorance by ignoring academic achievement. It is not important, but basketball is.

The Big Guns:

There were three guys on the Stephanopoulos hot seat this time. These were the Dumbocratic big guns who moved up after the Dumbocrats took over in Washington. First was Dave Obey of the appropriations committee. From what I could tell after his hedging, he will give George all the money he wants. Second was Charles Rangel of Ways and Means. Third was Henry Waxman of the Government Reform committee. Reform? Sure! He wants to audit Iraq. He thinks a lot of money has been pilfered. No kidding? After listening to these guys for several minutes, I get that nothing will change. They did not talk about, they talked around every issue.

Brent Scowcroft:

He used to be a Lieutenant General. He is advising George to go ahead with a troop surge. He talks about these events in Iraq as though he were discussing a chess game. He is as cold as ice about the human beings involved. It is clear that he has no relatives or friends in the service. It is also clear that he has never been in the trenches or on the firing line. He is an armchair general personified. He keeps babbling about abandoning our friends in that region. None of these fools seems to understand that Muslims are not our friend, have never been our friends, and will probably never be our friends. We have no friends in the Middle East. Let’s try to get clear on that.

Even Stephanopoulos falls into the trap of saying we may get defeated in Iraq. For Gord’s sake, we are defeated in Iraq. We out to face that and get out. Scowcroft babbles about having chaos in the Middle East if we abandon our “friends.” He babbles about 100 dollar per barrel oil. I frankly believe chaos I the Middle East is the best thing that could happen to us. It would force us to become energy independent. That’s something we should have done 30 years ago.

Language Barrier:

One of the problems we have in Iraq is we don’t have enough translators. We do not have people who can speak Arabic. They are talking about the problem of training translators. That’s crazy. We don’t have to train them. They are already here. My Gord, why don’t they go to Dearborn, Michigan and hire a few thousand of the out-of-work Arabs there? They are fluent in Arabic. It’s their native language. Pay them good and take them over there to translate. Let’s find out if they are really Americans.

Michigan Law:

Our courts are overloaded with more cases than they can handle. Justice is delayed and denied. So what are they doing? They have one woman who was convicted of murder. She has been sentenced to life in prison. The DA is not satisfied. The woman is being tried again for another murder. Why? What will that do except feed the ever-hungry media? Can she receive two life sentences? Maybe we can extend her life for another lifetime. Duh!

Did You Notice?

Whenever a general retires or gets fired, there is another one to step in and take his place. We have enough brass for two or three armies, but not enough troops for one tenth of an army.

Ford:

They are putting a Microsoft gadget called Sync in their cars. It lets the driver of a car do everything except pay attention to driving. These morons still have it in their heads that it’s lack of hand contact that causes accidents. What causes accidents is lack of attention, distractions. Someone should keep track and find out how many accidents these gadgets will cause in the coming months.

Graffiti:

It’s everywhere. I have a solution to the problem. We can’t catch everyone doing is, but we could catch a few. We should make examples of those few. They should be stripped naked, and spray-painted, perhaps passion pink. Then they should be taken to Flint Michigan and shoved out of a car on Dort Highway. I thought they would get beat up and ridiculed. Mrs. Gaffer suggested, on Dort Highway, they might get offers.

Ethanol:

They are building more plants in Michigan to convert corn to an inferior auto fuel. The media is gushing about it. They babble about fuel independence. These idiots never do their homework. They completely slip over the fact that these plants are being subsidized with our tax money to make them even marginally competitive. That’s what Granholm is doing with our tax dollars. That is part of the reason Michigan has a deficit. What fools these mortals be!

Captive Viewers:

The Saginaw, Michigan schools have moved to a new low of integrity. They are going to put advertisements in the school busses that haul the kids to and from school. They are going to victimize them with ads. They cannot escape. They had the chairman of the school committee on camera and he rationalized this disgraceful behavior on the grounds of revenue for the schools. It won’t net them enough money to justify victimizing the kids. All they would have to do is fire a couple of Vice Principles and they could save a lot more money. I think we should find out who the advertisers are and boycott them.

A Puzzle:

What is theodolite? What is it used for? Who invented it? As always, write a one-page paper and submit it to your mother or spouse. Don’t send it to me.
