Weekly Notes:

March 19, 2007:

Flint, MI:

A house blew up in an urban neighborhood. There was a strong smell of gas in the neighborhood the day before. At least four people swear they called Consumer’s Energy. Consumer’s Energy claims they did not get any calls. I am convinced that is a lie. As usual, the callers were put off by the bureaucracy and the house blew up. One neighbor’s house was so damaged that it is uninhabitable. The city condemned it. That guy needs an attorney. The only way you can get the attention of bureaucracies like that is to hit them hard in their moneybag. Mrs. Gaffer has a suggestion for people who notice a problem like that. Don’t call the bureaucracy, call 911. That way there will at least be a record of the call.

It Won’t Go Away:

The firing of attorneys by Justice is still news. One guy, Sampson, has resigned. Rove, and probably the VP are implicated for applying White House pressure to fire these people. Gonzales said, “I accept all responsibility, but…” The thrust of his bull was, he did not know what was going on in his department. Ken Lay was the last guy who made that claim. Of course, the Dumbocrats are calling for Gonzales’ resignation. Politics as usual.

Nursing Shortage:

The news folks tell us there is a nursing shortage in Michigan. Ain’t that a shame. The vicious policies of hospital administrators have come home to roost. Those miserable turds systematically drove professional nurses out of Michigan a few years ago. Mrs. Gaffer hung on in a repressive system long enough to retire. Many did not. Now there is a shortage of nurses and a shortage of nurse trainers. Oh my! Mrs. Gaffer is not qualified to be a nurse trainer because she has no degree. All that poor woman has is 26 plus years of direct nursing experience. It has ever been thus! Duh!

Granholm:

What a buffoon she is! The governor of Michigan has made another trip to Europe. Her goal was to try to bribe some of the large European companies into dropping some crumbs in our state. We were not told if she was successful. Meanwhile, she is adding more taxes to small business already here and driving some of them out of business. She deliberately and systematically discourages entrepreneurs in Michigan. She will urinate away some of those dollars she bleeds out of the small guys to bribe the big guys with so called tax incentives. That money will never be recovered.

Amendment II:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Washington had a law in direct contradiction to this amendment, which disallowed people to have guns. They claimed the amendment only applies to militia. Read it carefully, because that claim is not true. Militia is cited as an example, not a requirement. The Washington law has been overturned by the court. We still get bits of sanity in America, now and then. Great!

Republicrumbs:

Giuliani is the best candidate they have. Instead of dog fighting for the nomination, they ought to get behind him and push like hell. He is a true American hero. The rest of the Republicrumbs are run-of-the-mill hacks. If I were voting today and Obama was running I would vote for him. If not, I would vote for Giuliani. That may change as I learn more.

Speaking of politicians, Mrs. Gaffer says, it is wrong, wrong, wrong for the ministers of any church to allow a political hack to use their pulpit to make a political speech or announcement. Obama did that and Hillary did it. That’s wrong. That pulpit is for one purpose and one purpose only. That is to spread religious bologna and mythology. I count using the pulpit for regular politics as a strike against whoever does it. For Hillary, that’s a strike out. Obama has a count of zero and one.

Patriot Act:

The FBI has misused the patriot act. Are we surprised? They misused the secret subpoena provision to get personal records they should not have had. The head of the FBI acted properly humble about it and said it would be cleaned up. Nonsense! Nothing will be done because no one was punished. They will continue right on until someone has the courage to punish the offenders. The patriot act is illegal anyway and should be repealed in toto. In fact it should never have been passed. Perhaps the fools in congress are finally figuring that out. They gave George and his cronies enormous illegal power and they have systematically misused it.

Peter Pan:

He got his nuts screwed up. There has been a recall of Peter Pan Peanut Butter. It seems there is a bad batch containing salmonella something or other. Ain’t that a shame.

James Webb of Virginia:

He is another Dumbocratic babbler who was on the Stephanopoulos hot seat. I think these guys don’t even realize they are babbling. I suspect they think they are being very smooth when they talk all around a question without answering it. Maybe so! Grease is usually smooth.

Dole:

He is on the King George wounded warriors committee. He acts as though he thinks Bush will give him what he needs to fix the problem. What a fool. To do that, the administration would have to expose the incompetence throughout the system. For example the administration stands accused of undercounting wounded in Iraq. There is, if we can believe it, a 400,000-claim backlog of cases. Many of them are ex GI’s who are trying to get into VA hospitals around the country. The problem is, the system is swamped. George’s war, along with advances in medical technology has created way too many disabled vets. These people need help and it is not there. The VA was not prepared for this large surge in disabilities.

Mrs. Gaffer agrees with Dole on this. They both think these people should not be required to wait  in line, for months and years for a place at a VA hospital. They should be able to go to any hospital that is available. Wherever they can get in their care should be provided and the VA should cover the cost.

Columbia:

There are some Americans being held by guerillas in that country. A lot of people are making a big stink about this. They want the government to step up and do something. The government did do something. They paid these people large salaries to work as contractors in Columbia. The reason they were paid so highly is because there was risk in what they were doing. The truth is, they gambled and they lost. No one forced them to go there. Their own greed drove them. That’s all! While I can sympathize with them, I do not think we should change our policy or take risks to bail them out.
