Back to the Weekly Notes 2007 Archives Isolationist: According to my son, we
have a severe problem in the I never dreamed I would
have an isolationist in my own family. I thought isolationism ended around
WWI when we noticed that we couldn’t be
isolated from the world. Steamships made that impossible and air travel makes
it even less possible. We live in a world economy and a world ecosystem. We
tried to isolate the Dutch Elm beetle and we tried to isolate the Emerald Ash
Borer. We failed in both case. AIDS ought to show us something. Isolation
does not work. We are going to have to find real solutions to these problems
through science, not through politics. As soon as we get a sane
president, perhaps we can put our scientists to work solving these problems.
Every problem of this sort can also be seen as an
opportunity. The question to ask is not, how can we keep these things out?
They are here and more will come. The proper question is how can we deal with
this? Another question should be, are these things of any value? Wetbacks are
obviously valuable. That’s why they are here,
but what about the animal invaders? For example, is there a commercial use
for Zebra Mussels? Can we use them in making cement? I don’t
know, but we ought to ask the questions. One Flew Over: Jack Nicholson stared in
the movie, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” We find it was filmed at a real nut farm in Unsolicited Mail: Since the spam invasion
of our lives, we don’t get as much unsolicited
regular mail as we used to. We still get too much though. There is a use for
some of that trash. I regularly use the backs of the envelopes to make to-do lists before I throw them away unopened. Another
thing is some of them make good scratch paper. The fools who send them out
only print one side. The other side can be used to
scratch out ideas and solutions before we commit them to good paper. Now that
I’m relearning math, that is very handy. Scooter: What a dumb name. So
what, the mad king did not pardon him, he mitigated his situation. He does
not have to stay in prison as you or I would. He is on probation. Except for
the fine, that’s like no punishment at all. I’m sure some right thinking republican suck-up will
manage to pay that for him. It’s like doing a
favor for the VP. George said he though the punishment was excessive. Huh? I
thought it was mild. I’m sure George will
pardon Libby just before he leaves office. All I can hope is no Bush ever
occupies the oval office again. Doctors: I cannot imagine a
doctor who wants to commit mass murder. Yet, we are told
all of these terrorist suspects in Are there no sane
Muslims at all? Where are they? GM: They have stooped to a
new low on band bonding. They are using a movie aimed at children to brand
bond grade school infants to their products. This is worse that what the beer
companies do. It’s even younger kids being
victimized. We have a malignancy, which permeates our culture. It is an
obscene tumor called Madison Avenue and GM is exploiting it. Lieberman: What has happened to
this guy? He used to be a Dumbocrat. I always though of him as kind of liberal. After all, he
ran for VP as a Dumbocrat. Then he became an independent. Now he is one of
the last people who are supporting the failed Bush policies in These fools keep saying
a pull out would destabilize the Muslims: A Muslim spokesman for those people in Back to the Weekly Notes 2007 Archives |
