A Very Happy New Year:

With all sincerity, I wish you a great year in 2008. I hope all of us have a better year than we had in 2007. For all too many of us, that would not take much.

Global Warming:

One thing I am convinced of is nothing will be done about global warming in 2008. At least nothing will be done by our government. Too many of them are connect to big oil. They have a short-term vested-interest in promoting our lemming like head long rush to disaster. Short term is all they can think of. They lack the wisdom to consider the long term. In fact, there is nothing we can do about global warming. Unless we find new technology, it will continue.

Beating the auto industry up on fuel economy is a typical fraudulent move by our government. Incremental changes over a decade, even if they manage it, will not solve the problem. There is a possibility that our government will pass oppressive laws to curb the middle class use of oil. However, even if we make it impossible for most Americans to live decent lives, China, Russia, and India will continue. What we do will not matter.

Our only hope is to find new technology that will change the way all humans behave. Of course, that means finding a real alternative to oil. Windmills are bullcrap and so is Ethanol. Try as you will, you cannot run a car with a windmill, or a sail for that matter. Ethanol has caused a doubling of the price of eggs in one year and it has made no difference in greenhouse gasses. If you check out all the facts, you will find that Ethanol is just as dirty as oil and it is much less efficient. Meanwhile, because of the ethanol fraud we will have a lot more working poor struggling to buy food at ever-increasing prices.

If we find new technology, it will come from some genius individual or from a small enterprise with good management and highly skilled dedicated technicians. Forget the auto companies. All they know how to do it continue to refine what they already have. They can increase gas mileage marginally, but they cannot find new solutions because they are not looking. I will continue on my path, doing what I can. The joke is if we find new technology, Russia and China will steal it. Perhaps Ford and GM will also steal it. The good part is, so what, if it eventually gives our grandchildren a chance.

A Bent Arm:

There was a little girl shown on the news who was born with a curved arm. She was destined to be a freak, but the doctors fixed that. They broke her arm and put some tension devices in it so it stretched and straightened out. They made her normal. I though that was a very good application of technology. The problem with many of these scientific doctors is they don’t know the difference between good applications and dumb applications of technology. They don’t know where to stop. Where do you stop?

Science is inherently amoral. Scientists don’t do things because they are good or bad. They do them because they can. Let us recall that this medical science, which helped the little girl, is the same science that helped a rickety old egomaniacal broad have a baby she will never be able to care for. Also, where do you stop in making people normal? Can you envision a world where there are no short people and no tall people? How short is too short? How tall is too tall? When is a freak evolution? How do we know?

Mosques:

I have been wondering about this too. What is a mosque? Is a mosque a safe house for terrorist or a place of worship? It is a training facility for terrorists or a religious institution? Perhaps it is all of those. Perhaps the Muslims do not see a contradiction in those functions.

Children and Equality:

I wish we could get politics out of children’s education and training. We are wasting massive human assets, by providing substandard opportunities for some kids. Because a person has failed to function in our culture is not a good reason to punish his children, but that is exactly what we do. Literally, we punish the children for the sins of the father. That is stupid. We could be wasting an Einstein or a Van Gogh. Can we afford to do that? Regardless of the cost of education, ignorance is much more expensive in the long-run. A child should get good nutrition, good education, and safety as a matter of cultural survival as well as human decency.

Bhutto:

She was waxed. Bush and our media are pretending they don’t know who did it. Somehow, Musharraf has discovered that an Al-Qaeda terrorist did it. Do you believe that? There are a great deal of conflicting reports on what happened. I’m not sure even Bush and Musharraf are on the same page. I’ll wait a while. I doubt if we will ever get to the truth, but at least Bush and Musharraf will have a chance coordinate their cover stories.

Causing Change:

I have been researching and analyzing in a life long attempt to discover and reveal what truth I can find. Even so, I have no hope of ever seeing any real change in human behavior. I have always understood that, but the reality was brought forcibly home to me over the holidays. I was visiting my brother, who is a dedicated knee jerk Republicrumb. He learned that at his father’s knee when he was just a tad. Our father only had one passion in his life. That was to hate Roosevelt with all his energy. I don’t know why. I doubt if he did.

The upshot of is my sudden realization, when my brother started spouting his right wing rhetoric, that he thought he was presenting a logical argument. I knew with certainty that no amount or reason or logic would ever get him to look at the huge gaps in his presentation. Far from changing the world, I cannot even get my own brother to look thoughtfully at the facts. I am certain if Jesus Christ came back and ran on the Dumbocratic ticket, my brother would still vote Republicrumb even though he pretends to be religious. He would say something like, “Sure, but look at that shaggy beard and the unkempt hair. It’s clear he is a hippy. We don’t want someone like that running the country.”

If God really did create man, he did a shitty job. The truth is, America is loaded up with knee jerk Republicrumbs, knee jerk Dumbocrats, and knee jerk Christians and that will never change. I have no hope of ever changing that. Even so, I will continue seeking and presenting whatever truth I can find. I will do it because it is the only right thing for me to do. If I must have an epitaph let it be, “Steinman did it because he believed it was right.”
