Weekly Notes:

Republicrumbs:

This week I received a final notice in the mail from the Republicrumb National Committee. It contained an invoice and a threat. If I did not pony up the 25 bucks membership fee, the Dumbocrats might take over the world.  After I stopped giggling, I put the notice in the circular file along with the scrap paper and other bad jokes. However, I feel compelled to say a few words about this silliness. I do not recall ever applying for membership in the Republicrumb party or in any other party. I know I would never have paid 25 bucks or that honor. Truth be known, I cannot imagine what compelled these fools into thinking I was one of them. It could be wishful thinking on their part or it could be they though I was dumb enough to forget I had joined up with such a bunch of rigid, knee jerk dorks. Who knows! It don’t change much from year to year.

Kazmiercezk:

The Detroit Free Press tells us that people who knew this cowardly murderer are baffled by what he did. They say he was gentle, sensitive, and bright. That is bull. These people did not really know him at all. Think about it. How many people do you really know so well that you could be baffled by something they did? I don’t think I know half a dozen that well. We say we know people if we have met them. We do not! To really know someone, you must dedicate a large amount of time to them and time is a very precious commodity. We generally don’t squander it on acquaintances. We reserve it for a few special people.

Toxic Trailers:

The FEMA boondoggle continues with a formaldehyde crisis. FEMA bought thirty-eight thousand trailers at sixty thousand dollars per trailer. These were used to house the New Orleans refugees from that hurricane. Now they have discovered the trailers are toxic. Formaldehyde, which was used in their manufacturing, is making deadly air inside the trailers. Therefore, they are going to take the refugees out of the trailers and put them in hotels. I believe, with the money they are squandering, they could have built permanent homes for all of these families. I don’t understand why the government cannot sue the outfits that built those trailers. They are clearly defective. Why can’t they be held accountable?

Wanna Bet:

I was listening to McCain on the “This Week” show. I believe if McCain becomes the next president, the first thing he will do is make war on Iran. He is every bit as crazy as GWB. In addition, he made a really stupid statement. He made the same blunder that George Bush Senior Made. Bush said, “Read my lips, no new taxes.” Remember?

McCain insists that the surge is succeeding. Once again, we have this vaporous measurement of success. How do you measure success? Fewer of our kids are being killed in this senseless war. The hawks define that as success. Pardon me, but I do not call that success. I would call it success if none of our kids were killed in Iraq. I would call it success if we would go back to the real enemy. I would call it success if the Taliban had not regrouped in Afghanistan. I would call it success if we would go after and get Al-Qaeda where they hide and live.

Credit Unions:

Why don’t people know about credit unions? Why do they continue to deal with banks as the bankers continue to rape them? Banks are dishonest. They gouge in every transaction they make. This ATM gouging is just the most recent example. They do not think of their customers as people, they think of them as revenue sources, victims. Anyone can become a member of a credit union somewhere. Why don’t they? I’ll never go back to banks.

Sick Cows:

Hallmark Western Meat Packing Company was featured on a news report. One of their employees secretly taped the behavior of other employees dealing with sick cows and getting them into the slaughter. It was sickening to watch. It as not just brutal, it was sadistic. In addition, it was clear the cows were sick and should never have been in the food chain at all. Two workers were indicted. That is nonsense. The people who should be indicted are the managers of the firm. The workers were following orders. I have no objections to them being prosecuted, but they are small potatoes compared to the people who should be on trial.

Another Killer Drug:

Bayer has been marketing a drug they call Trasylol, which is causing renal failure. That’s complete kidney malfunction and is a death sentence for the victim. It has caused a large number of fatalities. Trysylol is just a trade name for Aprotinin. This is also known as bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor or BPTI. The drug is used in heart surgery even though Bayer knew it was doing that. They had the results of a study and they kept it secret. It’s all about money. Even though they were exposed, the FDA has taken no action against Bayer. Mrs. Gaffer and I agree. We think they take no action because the have been paid off.

Castro:

They claim he has given up his power. What he gave up were symbolic positions. He is still the head of the Cuban Communist Party, which is the only position that counts. Bush says we cannot recognize Cuba because they are not a democracy. He babbled about free elections. Does he mean elections like the ones in the Soviet Union? We recognize them and trade with them. Does he mean elections like those in China? Let’s get real Georgie Boy! Let’s get honest. Duh!

Ethanol Fraud:

Some people are still in favor of this fraud, especially political hacks like that woman in Lansing. However, the real cost of this fraud is just beginning to come to light. We find the cost of bread has escalated and the cost of pasta has doubled in the last few months. I have already pointed out the doubling of the cost of eggs over the last year. That is just the tip of the iceberg. What we will get is more working poor who will not even be able to buy bread, let alone fuel. Moreover, Michigan is bankrupt while that woman in Lansing continues to pour our tax money into subsidizing this fraud. Unconscionable!

Bull’s-eye:

The Navy actually shot down the wayward satellite with a single missile. It cost more than 70 million, but hey, it was a good show. I’m impressed. Maybe Putin will think twice about sending recon planes over America. China and Russia are both upset about this shot. The rhetoric is silly. The truth is, we proved we can hit their satellites in space. They don’t like that at all.

Made in China:

I did not believe they would do such a thing, but I should have known better. American pharmaceutical firms are marketing drugs containing un-inspected ingredients from China. What’s next? How low can they go for profit? They have no ethics at all. Meanwhile, the FDA claims they cannot inspect this imported garbage. They claim they need more money to do what they are paid to do. It’s the same old blackmail. They are not doing their jobs. When they are exposed, instead of expressing regret and contrition, they demand more money to not do their jobs. They want us to reward failure. It has ever been thus!

A puzzle:

Who was Charles Kay Ogden? What did he do?
