Weekly Notes:

GM:

They are bleeding money. They achieved the dubious distinction of loosing almost 16 billion in the last quarter. One can wonder how long they can continue to limp along with a wound of that size. I would think sooner or later their whole gut would fall through the hole. Wagoner as always spoke glowingly about future sales and profits. It seems he has his whole wad bet on that kludge they call the volt. He says it uses electricity and is much cleaner. He called it an alternative fuel. Where the heck does he think electricity comes from? Someone ought to tell him most electricity is generated by burning fossil fuel. For some reason, he thinks a lot of people are going to buy the Volt. I don’t. Even if they did, our power grid cannot sustain the constant drain of a few million cars plugged in. Electricity prices would skyrocket and Wagoner would have a few million ticked off customers with white elephants in their garages. It is clear that GM needs new management, as does Ford and Chrysler.

The FBI:

They did it again. They have managed to hound a man to death with their phony investigations. They are still fishing for the Anthrax mailer. In the process, they started to investigate Bruce Ivins. He was made of less stern stuff than their first victim, Steven Hatfield. Hatfield came through it with some bad wounds, but he survived. Ivins finally committed suicide. The FBI is not even embarrassed. They are swearing they have proved him guilty. I ask, to whose satisfaction, mine or theirs? They had a big time press conference to present their circumstantial evidence. Then, they said, the case is closed. I’m sure everyone believed them.

The Country is Safe:

At least we are safe for five weeks. The Senate and Congress went into a five-week recess. They cannot do any damage for a while.

Old Guy:

I am 77 years old. I get a prostrate check once per year to test for cancer and whatever. Now the wisdom from the white towers of medicine and government say that test should be stopped for people over 75. I knew it would come sooner or later. Old farts like me are a liability. It’s a pain to take care of us. Heck, we are going to die anyway. Why bother with us. Let us prey!

War Hero:

I am fed up with this war hero pretense. A lot of people are war heroes. Some were captured, some were wounded, and some were just traumatized. I never met anyone in Korea who was not scared most of the time. Most of us covered it well, but for those of us who knew, it was visible. So what? We served our country in time of war and we got out alive. How in the world does that qualify us for high office? It does not, and it makes me want to puke to her that nonsense.

Katrina:

After that disaster, some woman took five kids and took care of them for several years. Now the mother (Where was she?) has charged the caring woman with kidnapping. Of course, the FBI went right along with the crap. They arrested the woman and took the kids out of a good home. They stuck them in some kind of protective services. Isn’t that great for the kids? Double duh! I repeat what I have said previously. The FBI should be disbanded. They do nothing but harm. The woman is indeed a Good Samaritan and the FBI agents are criminals.

They were not satisfied with hounding Ivins to death. They were not satisfied with ruining the life of the little fat guy in Atlanta. They were not satisfied with the murders at Ruby Ridge. They were not satisfied with murdering Branch Davidians. They were not satisfied with ruining the career of Hatfield. Now they are going after good Samaritans. Where will they stop?

Kilpatrick:

The sky is finally falling on Detroit’s mayor. How many times have we seen this? A buffoon acquires a little bit of power and decides he is above the law. It just does not apply to him. The judge saw it differently. When Kilpatrick violated the terms of his parole and went to Canada, the Judge threw him in the slammer. Later he got out, but he was put on a tether. He is not immune to law after all. This all evolved out of an affair he had with a woman on the city’s payroll. The facts are not all in and we must wait to see how it all plays out.

A long time ago a nut named Colman Young was the mayor of Detroit. He was vulgar, loud, obnoxious, and dishonest. He lied about being a member of the Tuskegee air command. He was not. I checked the membership list. Colman Young was not among them. With all of that, I thought Detroit could not have a worse mayor. I was mistaken. Young was a better mayor than Kilpatrick.

Meanwhile Michigan’s attorney general had to get in on the act. He is charging Kilpatrick with something or other. With this attorney general, Jim Cox, I’m not sure. He seems to have a habit of doing things that make him look good in his own eyes. It would be his style to muddy the water around this case with some kind of thin beef. I’m not at all convinced he has any business muscling in on it. The local authorities were handling it. No one invited him in.

After the Fact:

The media has a big story, in their own eyes. It seems John Edwards had an affair with one of his assistants. He confessed to ABC News. Now they are making it a banner affair of the media. So what? This guy lost out, he is out of everything. His wife is deathly ill. Now is not a good time to hound him, but hound him they will until they find another victim. Are the any better than the paparazzi or the FBI? How?
