I am pleased to present
my latest and most important book
A Place to Stand
by William E. Steinman.
6 X 9 Case bound, 352 pages.

In this book, I examine our present spiritual condition, which I see as almost non-existent. I point out this lack of spirituality has resulted in a profound loss of ethics in our culture. From that, I will develop my own theories of spirituality and ethics including thoughts on practice and on our goals.

In Part One of this book, I discuss organized religion, religious history, and religious atrocities. I discuss the origins of Christianity and Islam with particular emphasis on the Roman Catholic Church. I also take a short look at some of the Eastern religious philosophies. I finish Part One by looking at our loss of religious meaning, and the alienation of the intellect from the total self. I also discuss the loss of our myth and with it the loss of our soul connection.

In Part Two, I look at the nature of the human being in modern times. I compare what we are with what I think we should be. I also point out some of the behaviors and institutions that stand in the way of our growth and enlightenment.

Part Three is a discussion of my understanding of scientific and spiritual facts. I discuss some inexplicable events from history and speculate on what I call the Life-Force. We can consider what might be implied by that. I also include a look at the current state of research into subatomic physics. We can consider what is implied by some recent scientific discoveries. With that as background, I present my theoretical framework. This is a theory upon which I offer a plan for our return journey I also lay out my understanding of consciousness in what I call the consciousness continuum and what conclusions we may draw from all of this.

None of the above would be useful by itself without a discussion on practice or methods of personal growth. This is the theme of Part Four. There are several ideas involved here. Methods of human growth, I insist, cannot be limited to any predefined set of practices or activities. Anything that helps to heal us is valid. In fact, considering the consciousness continuum we are really on a life journey toward the condition of God Awareness. For each stage of that journey, different techniques may be valid.

In Part Five, I consider some of the results we might expect as a result of our efforts to grow. I get into ethics and consciousness. I discuss human relationships, community, sharing, teaching, and our commitments. We have commitments to each other and to our community. I also look at our potentials for acquiring power and how that may affect our future. In that, I reiterate some of the concepts of my first book on child nurturing.

I also discuss our goals and my understanding of what constitutes real power. We can look at the how and why of acquiring it. From there I look at our future and discuss my thoughts on community and government. I notice that much of the basic structure need not change. We simply need to build stronger communities and elect people who are more ethical to government. We need people who care more about service than their own short-term temporal powers and gains. This is about creating Camelot II on earth.
