January 31, 2005:

January 30, 2005:
Iraq voted. The people came out with great courage. If you saw that and were not moved and proud to be a human being, you are probably not a human being. George may get away with this one yet.

ABC, Channel 12 Local news:
They are telling us that more and more adults have attention deficit disorder (ADD). They have a crafty home test on the internet that people can take to find out if they have ADD. So far as I can tell, they are diagnosing an inferiority complex as ADD. People who are conned by this do it yourself test can go to their doctor and demand pills. I would like to find out who is behind this nonsense. I think someone is pushing pills on the public and the media is getting conned into creating a public hysteria to make it go over.

Democracy:
The president gave his acceptance address a few days ago. It sounded to me like thinly disguised imperialism of the worst kind. He reiterated a very aggressive thug-like foreign policy of enforcing democracy. We are going to support democratic movements wherever they occur. He never mentioned Iraq, but he made his intentions very clear. I ask, will we do this the same way we are attempting it in Iraq? I myself am an imperialist, but not a thug. I think we should be exporting democracy, but I don't think we can do that through the muzzle of a gun. I think the only way we can do it is by setting a brilliant example of what a democracy should be. Currently, we are a very poor example. We are bullies in the world and the world sees us that way. Worse than that, our own house is not in order. We are not practicing democracy here. Lets repeal the Patriot Act at home, then we can talk about creating democratic institutions in the rest of the world. America is no longer a shining example of democracy. It is a cesspool of petty politics, oppression, and privilege.

Alzheimer's Disease:
We notice on the channel 12 local news a story about a new treatment for this cruel stalker of humans. It seems the scientist can inject a growth hormone drug directly into the brain of the victim. It then promotes new cell development in the damaged part of the brain. So far, results are positive. It sounds great. We can only hope and wait.

Women:
The structure and bigotry of our commercial culture makes it very, very difficult for women to contribute. That is a very silly waste. It indicates a very ill culture. We are essentially forfeiting half of our creative talent. We drive away the best with our neanderthal attitude. If I had a commercial enterprise, I would bring women in on their own terms. Then we would cream the competition with creative genius.

Weyco:
This is a company in Lansing, Michigan. They fired four people because they refused to take a lie detector test to find out whether or not they smoked cigarettes. This should not stand, but it probably will. It's another blatant example of invasion of privacy by brain dead bureaucratic thugs. I hope the victims sue, but that is a tough road. Our government and courts are making it more difficult every day by colluding with the corporate bullies and crooks. When other countries surpass us in creative achievement, we need not wonder why. Again, we manage to drive away our best talent with our neanderthal attitude.

Another Insanity:
This is a craziness who's time has come. There is a school in Texas that is offering a chance to win a new car to kids who have good attendance in school. They are also giving away laptop computers for good attendance. What a wonderful example of graft and corruption they are showing to these kids. This is not about education or about learning. It's about making a good show to get the state and federal bribery money. State and federal funding is affected by truancy. So the school pays off the kids, the government pays off the school, and learning is not relevant. Bizarre, simply bizarre.

Hypocrisy:
Another school in Texas, wouldn't you know? They are going to have a separate grade on the kids report card. The kids will be graded on how fat they are. It's like the parents don't know if their kids are lard butts. Before they grade these kids, I think they should take the pop and candy machines out of the schools. They should also correct their lunchroom menu. Stop feeding the kids garbage.

Puzzles to Ponder:
Doctor Einstein, in his infinite wisdom, defined a universe of four dimensions for us. Since then, many scientists have ponder that and some have concluded that the universe must have eleven dimensions. Eleven dimensions, they say, are necessary and sufficient to describe the universe we know about.
Well!
What about the universe we don't know about? We have always said, if something exists we can develop a mathematics to describe it. Should not the converse also be true? If we have a mathematics to describe something, it must exist. Well, we have linear algebra which allows us to define a universe of infinite dimensions. What would be the properties of such a universe? Would those properties contradict what we already know or would they be simply an extension of what we know? Would new and wonderful things become possible?
