April 21, 2003:

Israel:
It keeps on going. Terrorists go into Israel and blow themselves up along with a few bystanders. Then the Israel army goes into the Gaza Strip and kills a few bystanders. No one is exempt. Women, children, old people, cripples, they don't seem to care who they kill so long as they kill someone. Who do you think is winning or losing that war? The children on both sides are the losers. There are no winners and there never will be.

The leaders on both sides are evil monsters who only care about personal power. We ought to stop helping them. We ought to ask them to send their children out of that place. Perhaps we could help the UN establish a children's haven in some other country. and beg them to give us the kids. Then we could just sit back and wait until all the adults kill each other off. After that we could help the kids to set up a non-religious cooperative government for the whole area. We could call it the Not Holy Land.

Boyle's Law:
I was talking with a friend recently and referred to my series on History and Evolution. In that, I had suggested that the universe may be simply obeying Boyle's law. With a very straight face, he pretended he did not know what Boyle's law is about. He is very helpful to me in that way. He often plays the straight man to force me to make sure I know what I'm talking about. I am never really sure if he is pulling my leg or not. The truth is, we often forget what we learned in school. It's part of the result of learning to pass tests instead of learning out of genuine curiosity because we want to know. We will forget much of what we memorized just to please authorities.

So, for whatever reason, I had to explain Boyle's law to him. If I learned this in school I don't remember. When the time came that I needed to know it as part of a study I was making, I looked it up. I like to use examples to illuminate things like this. Here is how I explained it to my friend.

Assuming a constant temperature, if you fart in a jar and put a lid on it, no matter how much or how little you fart, it will completely fill the jar at uniform density. There will be no place in the jar where there will be more or less fart. Now, if you want it in more technical jargon, here is Boyle's law from Britannica 2003 Ultimate Reference Suite CD.

A relation concerning the compression and expansion of a gas at constant temperature. This empirical relation, formulated by the physicist Robert Boyle in 1662, states that the pressure (p) of a given quantity of gas varies inversely as its volume (v) at constant temperature; i.e., in equation form, pv = k, a constant.

The Drumbeat Goes on:
Another story came out last week. According to the report, some Iraqis were caught going into Syria with a lot of money and some letters offering rewards for those willing to kill America soldiers. It is interesting that there was no follow upon this story. Did it happen, or was it another output from Clark of the American propaganda ministry?

Sunday, April 13: Evening News. The administration continues to make the case for war with Syria. They are getting the world ready. They are still putting out that story about weapons of mass destruction, the same one they used against Iraq. It turned out to be untrue. Now, Bush is making innuendos about Syria. "They simply need to cooperate," he says. What does that mean? At the same time, they are also making the case against Iran. The old axis of evil thyme. Who's next?

April 14, 2003. Powell and Rumsfeld continue the drumbeat. They now claim we have seen chemical weapons in Syria. We have intelligence that Syrians are crossing over into Iraq and Iraqis are crossing over into Syria.

April 15, 2003. Bush is threatening Syria. he is calling the Syrians terrorists. The pattern is familiar. There are no current plans to make war on Syria.

Backward in Time:
It seems Joe McCarthy did not die after all. He is now reborn in his proteges who are rampaging in Hollywood. Several acting persons have been blackballed and prevented from working. Their crime? Protesting Georgie's war with Iraq.
