May 17, 2004:

Milk:
They say milk prices are soaring and people are desperate because of it. May I respectfully point out that animal milk is generally not essential to human health. Mothers milk is an exception when the child is first being nurtured. Other than that, milk has been grossly oversold to America. Over consumption of lactate is not healthy. The French have it right on this one. Pop a cork and relax.

Intellects and Politics:
I have said there are not enough intellects in this country to staff a small grocery store. Mr's Gaffer challenged me on that. She may be right but so what? What I said may not be true, but as long as intellects hide out in closets it may as well be true. The last intellect who chose public life was Moynihan. I believe he and Stevenson were the only ones in the twentieth century.

There are no intellects in public life. There are no people in public life who care about America. There are no people in public life who care about anything except themselves. These bums are just like managers. Every manager I have ever dealt with was egocentric to the extreme with one exception. When a person is offered a management position they do not look within themselves and ask, "Can I be a good manager? Can I be a good leader and inspire these people to be their best?" The only question they ask is, "What's in it for me?"

The politicians play the same game. When a person goes to Washington, he asks the same question, "What's in it for me?" Kerry is saying the words, but it's just a tapdance. Will he be a better leader than Bush? I don't see how he could be worse unless he came to power and started flinging nukes around the world.

I have said, a democracy is ever and always vulnerable to a madman. When we vote we have no really good way of knowing if we are, in fact, electing a madman. With Bush our luck ran out. We can only hope we survive him. Of course, Rome survived Nero so there is hope.

Was it Intentional?
It may have been coincidental, but I thought it quite appropriate when ABC channel 12 news put a piece about George Bush and a piece about the King of Toilets back to back. It made sense to me. I doubt if George would laugh.

Following Orders:
The scope of the abuses in Iraq is widening. Now the crumbs who tortured Iraqi prisoners are claiming they were only following orders. Does anyone remember Nuremberg? That's what the Nazi war criminals said too. That bull did not wash then and it does not wash now. Regardless of orders, each person is responsible for their own ethical behavior. If there were improper orders given the people who gave them should also be brought to justice, but that does not excuse the slime-balls who executed the orders.

The stupid media keeps calling these people US Soldiers. That is a stupid malignment of our real soldiers. These people were amateur soldiers, weekend warriors, national guard, militia. They were not properly trained and should not have been there. They were not psychologically fit. Even our real soldiers should never be in the position of interrogating prisoners. That is a function of specialists, trained intelligence officers. It is not a function of the ordinary enlisted man. The execution of this Iraqi operation has been half-witted from the beginning.

Sanctions:
King George is imposing economic sanctions against Syria. Is this just a prelude to the next invasion? What will happen if George thinks he is going to lose the election? Will he escalate? Will he provoke them into a contrived international incident? Is everything that happens in Washington politically motivated?

Necessary Techniques:
The American military in Iraq has issued a bull defining the techniques to be used in the interrogation of their victims. They claim it is in accord with the Geneva Convention. The so called necessary techniques they listed may be in accord with the Geneva Convention, but they are not in accord with human decency. What is it that makes us different than Hussein? Why did we depose him?
