July 5, 2004:
Flint:
A kid stole a car from a parking lot and took a joy ride. The
cops caught up with him and shot him with a phaser. They say
it stopped the kid without hurting him. That's good. I won't
waste a lot of sympathy on the kid, but what about the car owner.
That kid was able to steal the car because the dupa who was driving
it left it parked with the key in the ignition. That smacks of
entrapment. Shouldn't we have a law that makes that a misdemeanor
at least. It's deliberate carelessness and deliberate carelessness
should be punished. Look at the possibilities. The kid could
have been killed in the chase. Cops could have been hurt or killed.
Innocent bystanders could have been hurt or killed. Studied stupidity
should be a crime in my book. It's as dumb as setting your purse
aside in a store while making a transaction. For crap's sake,
you deserve to have it stolen.
The Saudis:
It seems the royal big shots are getting a taste of their own
medicine. Crazy rich people always have the notion that they
can unleash criminals and still control them. It can't be done.
Now the madmen are biting the hand that fed them. Way it goes.
They will have to up the ante to attract trained technicians
now. Supporting international terrorism is starting to cost them
big money. Maybe they will reconsider and stop doing it.
Arrogance:
Have you ever noticed that the people who are the most incredibly
arrogant are always the ones who have the least reason to be,
like, for example, computer programmers?
Burn the Democrats:
The Catholic church in some places is getting into politics in
a really silly way. They are going to punish liberal Democrats
by refusing them communion. So far its only the ones who support
woman's rights. If they get away with this, what will they escalate
to? Maybe they could take a page from Tomás de Torquemada's
book and burn some unrepentant Democrats at the stake. While
we are at it, how about if we refuse the Pope communion for supporting
pedophile priests?
Stephanopolous for President:
He is the only eligible man out there who has a real understanding
of what going on. He is the only person on the national scene
who is qualified. He is the only one who thinks before he shoots
or shouts. He makes Tweedledum and Tweedledee look like dumb
and dumber.
Bill's Book:
He will probably make more money on that book than he did as
president and governor combined. I can't really admire a guy
who brings a bimbo into his wife's home, but he does have moxie.
I also think he is right abut Ken Starr. Starr was nothing more
than a hit man for Nuke-em-Newt. It really was a vendetta. It's
nice to see than Newt went down and Starr just faded away while
Clinton continues on. In a way, it's kind of ironic justice.
Evil minded people come out of darkness, they do evil, then they
fade back into darkness. It has ever been thus.
Some Things Never Change:
I rarely listen to radio. The advertising is enormously offensive.
However, we do have a radio in our garden which is the mouth
for our scarecrow, Orville. It usually keeps the deer from eating
our produce.
So, I was changing the batteries yesterday and I heard an
interview. It featured one of the owners of a bookstore in Harlem.
She was ecstatic because they had a book signing with Bill Clinton
scheduled that day. It was one of the first and worth a fortune
to the store. How did they manage that? She explained. One of
her partners knew the publisher who knew someone in Bill's office
in Harlem. The publishing industry has never changed and never
will change. It is rigged by insides for insiders. Unless you
know someone on the inside, you don't have a chance. The quality
of your product or your operation is irrelevant.
Murders:
Every evening I watch the evening news on television. There are
always murders or attempted murders to report, in Flint, in Detroit,
and Iraq. It never changes. The most recent one was nine people
shot in Detroit on Freedom Day. Some Freedom Day! Who knows why?
Insanity rules our streets and the streets of Bagdad.
It won't change until the citizens get honest and accept their
responsibilities. Here is the truth. The first line of defense
against crime is not the police, it's the citizens. The citizens
have to stop saying, "They oughta," and start doing
their duty, even when it is risky to do so. That is the only
way it will ever stop.
First Point of Contact:
That is where a company first meets the potential customer and
the customer meets and forms an opinion of the company. It is
beyond my comprehension why so many companies put a minimum wage
jerk or slick mouthed buffoon at that point. but they do. I have
been driven away from products I was interested in too many times.
With most companies, the first person you encounter will be a
huckster or an uninformed jerk. I think the only reason they
get away with that and stay in business is that almost all of
them do it.
Tax the Losers:
Governor Granholm and her Republican allies in the Michigan legislature
are taking the easy road. Rather then cut spending and cleaning
house, they are going to add $0.75 to the price of a pack of
smokes. I don't smoke cigibutts so it won't hurt me. Just the
same, I seriously disapprove of this dishonesty of the losers
in Lansing taxing other losers to slide by. What is really needed
is to acknowledge that the good times are over and the high living
is in the past. We need to tighten up and operate within the
real budget. We need to start building a base of ethical behavior
that will create new good times in the future. We need to quit
sneaking around the truth and taking the easy way. Granholm won't
do that so it's time to throw that particular rascal out.
