August 1, 2005:
Egypt:
The terrorists have taken their war to Egypt. This is an example
of my point about the lack of nationality of these swine. They
have none. This is not Arabs killing Arabs. It is madmen killing
humans. They are indiscriminate in their insanity. They lash
out at anything that has the appearance or trappings of civilization.
They deserve no mercy. They deserve no due process. They deserve
to be treated the same as we would treat rodents or any other
threat to the human community. We do not bring rats to trial,
we just kill them. I still wish the stupid media would stop using
the word mastermind to describe these fiends. Any school kid
can make a bunch of bombs and coordinate a slaughter. It does
not take a mastermind. It only requires mostrous evil.
London:
In my July 11, 2005 Weekly Notes, I made the point that innocent
people will be killed. Now it has happened. An innocent man was
killed by the British police in their search for terrorists.
It is a tragic, but inevitable consequence of our response to
terrorism. Even if we proceed with care, these errors will occur.
As the terrorists escalate the situation, we can expect them
to occur more frequently. The FBI and CIA have a history of not
proceeding with care. Unless we resolve this terrorist problem
soon, the deaths of innocent people will become commonplace.
On the plus side, they found a bunch of bombs that did not
go off and they have captured four more of those filthy slime
balls. One was caught by the Italian police, three by the English.
They hope to get some information from them. That's fine with
me, so long as they are tried and executed afterward. Let's not
delay!
Rove:
Rove is becoming a serious liability. The heat is being turned
up. George will have to abandon him unless he can change the
subject. He did not do that with his recent high court nomination.
That will not get hot enough by itself to cook a hotdog. Nothing
else is imminent. We don't have enough troops to start another
war. Rove will have to go. Like most of the world's fundamentalists,
he is too dull to read even the most obvious signals. If he was
a thoughtful decent person, he would save George the trouble
and resign. Instead, he will hang on like a festering dingleberry
on the President's butt. He will have to be forcibly lanced.
Unions:
The AFL - CIO is disintegrating. It seems the Teamsters and the
Service Employees International are seceding from the main union.
This is abut 1/3 of the total membership. Others may follow,
so says the media. The argument seems to be about how the union's
money is invested. Too much is going into politics and too little
into membership drives and support functions. It is probable
that none of this would have happened if the democrats had been
able to run an election campaign. They have squandered huge amounts
of union monies in really dumb campaigns while the unions have
lost support in both houses.
The political activity may be only part of the problem. Perhaps
unions have gone beyond their point of usefulness. Cost-wise,
to the dues paying members and to our total economy, they may
have passed the point of diminishing returns. What they get for
the workers does not offset the dues and the problems they cause.
The union's glory days are really over. Too often they end up
giving in on issues just to preserver a few jobs. The real problem
is, with way more workers than jobs, management is in the driver's
seat. Union members are only 13% of the total workforce. That's
pretty weak. Breaking up into smaller unions won't help. It will
only weaken their influence further.
Exodus:
With their so called teases the media almost had me believing
that a horde of Fundamentalist Christians were about to descend
on and take over South Carolina and secede from the United States.
When they actually got to reporting the story, it was only a
few crazies who were involved. They are trying to build a community
to be ruled by the bible. Hee, hee, hee! Whose view of the bible
will they use?
Michigan:
Many years ago we had a governor called Soapy Williams. He presided
for many years and, so far as I could tell, he never did much
of anything except run for office. I used to wonder and ask,
"Why doesn't our governor do something?" What a fool
I was. He was the least damaging governor Michigan ever had.
He did nothing, but he did no harm. My mistake. Oh for the good
old days.
NASA:
I think they need some new blood. The shuttle mission is in danger.
Again, pieces fell off during the launch. They said they were
ready and had checked everything , but something went wrong.
Why aren't they looking for different solutions to the foam insulation
problem? Business as usual is not getting it. They need some
new ideas. Much like the grey auto industry, they need to look
outside their box. They have demonstrated that they cannot solve
the problem with business as usual. Maybe they need new management.
Zippered Storage Bags:
They are good for storing many things, like carrots, peas, leftovers,
and data bits and bytes. Not many people know about the data
bits and bytes, but it does work. I use several bags for that.
For example, when I do data backup to a CD that I am going to
carry around, I put the CD in a regular sleeve, then put that
into a two quart zippered storage bag. It does a dandy job of
keeping dust and dirt out. I use the one gallon bags to protect
my removable hard drive backup. Then I can carry the drive in
my briefcase without worry.
Perception:
Wouldn't it be funny if we discovered centuries from now that
the universe we perceive is nothing more than an eddy in an enormous
stream. We could be just an anomaly caused by some local condition,
like a stick or a stone in a mountain stream near the shore.
It causes motions and activities that are completely uncharacteristic
of the larger process.
