August 16, 2004:

The Media Again:
At the democratic convention they got after a movie mogul who they said was the biggest money man ever. It seems he was spreading money on the delegates like a farmer spreads manure on a field. What I like is what he did when they shouted questions at him. He just listened attentively and smiled. He did not say a word. He did not give them one word they could twist. They were totally frustrated. I don't know if he is a bad guy or a good guy, but I like him for that. Still, I'd like to know who and where he is. He makes movies and I have a book I would like to send him.

Jennings:
What I like about Peter is his interviewing style. He is probably the best of the media people in terms of respecting the human. I watched him with Edwards and with Kerry. He actually let them give complete answers to his questions. He did not interrupt them with his own ego trips. That aggressive interruption technique is what I dislike about the Sixty Minute crew. I think it shows a lack of confidence.

The Russian Oil Problem:
It seems the major oil producing company in Russia is going bankrupt and may have to discontinue. What an opportunity for Amoco or BP. They could buy it out and continue production. This would have two salutary effects. It would give a great boost to the Russian economy. They sorely need that. It would also give some stiff competition to OPEC. They surely need that.

Powell:
He told the Iraqis we are going to speed up spending there to make the country more safe. Wouldn't it nice if we also speeded up the pay to our troops in the field? Do you suppose Rumsfeld and Powell are communicating?

Sealing Our Borders:
The fools in Washington say we need to seal our borders against terrorism. We have about 4000 miles of border with Canada and about 1000 miles of border with Mexico. On most of that border it is possible to walk from one country to another with no problem. Tell me how we will seal 5000 plus miles of border. The concept in silly on the face of it. It would require a huge army to do that. We do not have a huge army. We are spread so thin, our kids are in danger already. The only way to stop terrorism is to go after the madmen in their home.
PS: Their home is not in Iraq!

Learn Chinese:
I would recommend this for all young Americans. The next great civilization will arise in China. For me it does not matter, but young people should be prepared to communicate with them.

One Race:
People keep talking about our racial identities. Even people who should know better do it. The Media does it in spades. That kind of thinking belongs to the pseudo science of Eugenics. It's an emotional sickness. Here is the skinny for anyone who cares. As far as our anthropologists can learn, all humans are descendent from the Australopithecines or Southern Apes of Africa. There is only one race. It's the human race or Homo Sapiens. The minor differences that the fools refer to as racial identities are most likely the result of long term environmental factors, nothing more. I know most rednecks do not like to hear they have the same ancestors as Jessie Jackson, but they do. It's probable that Jessie doesn't like it either.

The Other Race:
I predict King George will win reelection. Kerry's problem is he does not understand that the rabble are rabble. George's campaign is jerking them around by the nose and they love him for it. Kerry is trying to talk sense to them and they wonder what he is talking about. The rabble deserve what they get. Unfortunately, we all get what they get.

Charlie McCarthy:
I still like him better, although I acknowledge Cheney is smoother. With Bergen, whenever I watched him very closely, I could see his lips move.

The Coverup is Coming Unglued:
Some British citizens who were being held at Guantanamo were released. They are talking. If even half of what they say is true, America stands in abject disgrace before the civilized world. These prisoners were brutalized for two and a half years and never charged with anything. We are no better than the savages we claim to deplore. Do you think the American rabble will care? Think again. Our government will rationalize it and the rabble will buy in. Then they will reelect George for protecting us so well.

On Belief:
What you decide to believe is not my business. What you believe is not the public's business or the State's business. You may believe any superstitious mythology or nonsense you wish. You may believe in Santa Klaus, Jesus Christ, Zeus, Ram, the Dali Lama, Jerry Flopwell, or George Burns. You may believe you are naturally homosexual and it is still not my business.

What you do in public is my business. When you flaunt yourself in my face, it becomes my business. When you try to impose your superstitions or lifestyle on my children or my neighbors it becomes my business. Behavior in the public arena is the business of the community. Try being rational about it. Mind your own business and leave me out of it. You do have a right to the common legal protections for your beliefs and your relationships, including the right of inheritance. You do not have a right to shove it in my face, nor do you have a right to teach your superstition to my children. I put you all in the same bag, primitive religious fanatics and fruits. Your mentality is the same.
