August 25, 2003:
Iraq:
We have more dead soldiers. Does Bush still say, "Bring
em on"? Also, the American soldiers accidentally shot a
news cameraman. Bad things can happen in a dangerous war where
there are not enough troops and too many enemy terrorists.
The skulking enemy sneak fighters also blew up the hotel where
the UN headquarters people were living and working. They loaded
a truch with explosives and drove it up to the wall beside the
building. Then they detonated it. Many people were killed. It
does not change much from week to week.
Israel:
Another busload of people were blown up. There were a lot of
dead and injured. Israel is sure to retaliate as the wheel of
pain and misery continues to turn. It does not change much from
week to week.
An Energy Bill:
The power grid has failed. The barndoor is open and the livestock
have escaped. Of course our congress is thinking about passing
an energy bill now. Ain't that just swell? They will probably
get around to acting in a year or so. It does not change much
from week to week.
Only in Michigan:
It seems, after putting the Michigan K-12 students through the
punitive grueling MEAP tests, the bungling Michigan Department
of Education has lost the tests and the scores for a number of
schools. Governor Granholm's gang strikes again. This seems to
be classic Michigan politics. For some reason, the treasury department
instead of education was the one who let and approved the test
evaluation contract, perhaps to the lowest bidder. It seems the
contractor then misplaced the tests. It does not change much
from week to week.
Going Along:
This is what Socrates refused to do. He was murdered for his
trouble. Another who refused to go along was Martin Luther King
with the same result. He was murdered. Going along is what most
people do, out of cowardice or stupidity. Going along is the
kind of thing that allowed a minority of monsters in the American
south to practice blatant racism for decades. Going along is
what several of the thirteen colonies did on slavery. Later that
produced the American civil war when Lincoln refused to go along.
To be sure, Lincoln was also murdered.
The seeds of the American civil war were sown by Jefferson.
If those early founders had not gone along, would we have had
a United States of America? Possibly not. Whatever evolved would
surely have been different, perhaps more like Europe. Was going
along ethically reprehensible? I believe it was, absolutely wrong.
Do we Need a Law?
If we don't have one, I would make a specific federal law to
deal with those swine who release viruses and worms on the internet.
When caught, they would do hard time based on the real cost of
the damage they do. It is no prank when working people are disrupted
for many hours while the bug is tracked down and neutralized.
Recently, Ford had to shut down their e-mail for several hours
because of a virus. That cost millions of dollars.
I would be generous with these ne'er-do-wells. I would assume
a pay of much more than they could actually earn. I would set
their annual pay at $100,000. Then, if one of these scum caused
5 million in real damage cost, he would only have to spend 50
years in prison doing hard time. Token fines and wrist slaps
are not going to fix this problem.
Publishing:
Most of the books published and sold in today's market have no
literary value or practical use. That is because the people who
control the publishing industry, from the smallest to the largest
firm, are not literary people, nor are they technical people.
They are hucksters and con men with a very fine line separating
the two. This has not always been the case. It became the case
in recent years as all human values in our culture degenerated
and profit became, not just the guiding principle, but the only
principle. greed rules America in ever nook and cranny. Ethics
are an annoyance. They get in the way.
Like the Media:
Everyone already knows about the eastern grid power outage. I
will address that in detail on the Forum when I know more about
it. Other than that, the news has not changed much so I decided
to do a media thing. I will make up some different news.
George had to call the veterinarian because he thought Rumsfeld
was constipated. the vet took a look at him and said, "No,
that's just his normal expression."
George said, "But he seems to be in pain. He doesn't smile."
The vet said, "Really, Sir, you don't want to see him smile.
It would mean something terrible was about to happen to someone."
In an interview, Colin Powell said, "Whatever George
says, I agree. I am one hundred percent on board, at least until
the next election when I can get out of this nightmare gracefully."
Later, George called Ashcroft's vet because he seemed to be
coming down with distemper. The vet came over and looked him
over.
"No, Sir," he said, "this is not distemper. He
has not begun to bite himself. Since he is only snapping at media
people and rational people no one in the administration needs
to be afraid."
