October 3, 2005:

More Disaster:
They say Rita hit in a good spot, if there is such a thing. I would not want to say that to someone whose house had just been blown away. However, it did hit on the border where there is less to destroy. If it had hit Texas where the refineries are it would have done a great deal more damage, but think of this. It would do no more damage than one determined terrorist could do with a dozen small bombs. That area is not secure. It would take at least a whole division of troops to secure it. The same is true of New Orleans. A hurricane and official bungling did the damage, but a terrorist could have done it, again with a few small bombs.

DeLay:
Hi is charged with some kind of crime by a Texas prosecutor. Of course, he denied all culpability as he stepped down, but he did step down. I don't know if he is guilty or not, but I do not like the man. He has gathered and exercises way more power that any man should have. He controls too may people. Our congress is supposed to be democratic, not autocratic.

Saginaw Highschool:
Two students who were leaving a homecoming dance were shot in front of the school. That is a tragedy, but it happens frequently in these areas in and around Flint, Michigan. No one knows what to do about it. No one seems able to enforce the law around here. Recently, the mayor of flint tried to deal with a similar problem by taking a liquor license away from a nightclub. The shooting happened in their parking lot and, in the mayor's simple mind, that made the club owner guilty. I suppose we could do a similar thing at Saginaw High. We could take away all of the teacher's teaching certificates and close the school. Why not? It makes just as much sense. If you cannot enforce the law, why not blame someone else for the problem? Only in Michigan. Only with fools in office. It never ends!

The Opportunist:
A car dealer in Michigan is capitalizing on the Katrina disaster. His name is Randy Wise. He is offering to give $100.00 to disaster relief for every car he sells. What a shabby piece of crap he is to use human tragedy to peddle his wares. 100 bucks is less than what dealers normally give, after the sale, to customers who brought the new client through their doors. Shame on you Wise!

The Internet:
The media has revealed that kids can download dirty radio shows from the net to their Ipods and play them over and over again. Many spokesmen are outraged by this. In fact, these silly outraged spokesmen are just jealous. When they were kids, all of the dirty stuff the could get was printed material. I remember it, little Popeye flip books with Popeye doing obscene things with Oliveoil. I'm telling you, it ruined me for life! Now, all I can think about is Popeye doing Oliveoil. Or is it Mazola oil?

They showed us this one junior high kid who had an Ipode and was doing these awful things. I can tell you this, the kid was screwed up alright, but it was not the dirty shows that did it. He was a very fat teenager with a double chin. The problem is, his entire life style. He is brain dead attached to a little handheld electronic device. He is a couch potato in spades. He probably has no interests outside his fantasy world. I fear we are going to have a large number of kids growing up this way. I ask, why don't his parents kick him in th ass and get him moving? Whatever happened to parental responsibility?

Pieces of Excrement:
Two pieces have been discovered in Michigan so far. One was in Mason and the other was in Flint Township. These are women who posed as Katrina disaster victims in order to get free food, clothing, and housing. Of course, that is felony fraud. Both were discovered. For punishment, I think they should put in the path of the next major hurricane.

Sunset:
My son told me about a grand idea. I don't know if it is his idea or if he just picked up on it. It matters not, because he is the one who brought it t to me. His thought is, all laws should sunset in ten years or sooner. This would allow legislators to put a shorter life on some laws or simply allow the law to die after ten years. I would only add, we must exempt the constitution from this sunset law. For other laws, if the legislators thought the law were really necessary they would have to prove that by renewing it against whatever opposition had gathered. This would clear a lot of garbage off of the books in a short time.

Victim:
When a child is caught in a bad economic situation, he had no choices in how that came about. In addition, he has no tools to deal with the situation. He is a victim of the politicians who control his world. In education, we ought to recognize that fact and give that kid a chance of success at least equal to the chance the politician gives to his kids.

The Quiet One:
My father was always a quiet kind of guy. For sure, he could be talkative when he got with his close friends or his brother Ed. Otherwise, especially around home, he did not talk much. My mother more than made up for this. She talked incessantly, from the time she woke up until she was sleeping. In fact, when she died we had to tie her jaw closed with a pair of her old bloomers before we could bury her. She was dead alright, but her mouth was still going.

I dearly remember the my-mother her-mother debates. When my wife and I were younger and both mothers were living we would occasionally take them both out to dinner. They would sit on opposite sides of the table and take turns talking. It was a real show for us just to watch. Her mother or mine would be talking a blue streak and the other would sit back and wait, gathering her thoughts and strength. As soon as there was a pause for breath, the other would start in. I know that neither of them heard a word the other said, but they really liked each other. They said so many times.

Granholm the Mighty:
The Governor of Michigan is talking tough. She has set a deadline on jobs for Michigan. Perhaps she has some kind of magic wand to make her wish come true. Who knows? Bizarre.

In another of her ongoing games with voters she is planning another staged event in Flint, Michigan. It will be a small gathering where she will answer questions posited by the "people." The "people" who will ask the questions will be picked from those who apply for a place in the audience. All the applicants must do to become a candidate is submit by mail a written list of the questions they wish to ask. Some of them who offer the right questions will then be honored as attendees to the event. I only have one question, "What ever happened to integrity in Lansing?"
