October 18, 2004:
Did You Know?
Bill Gates did not create his first product, MS-DOS. He bought
it from Seattle Computer Company. It was actually written by
a fellow named Tim Paterson. I have found no convincing evidence
that Gates ever wrote any software. This is not to belittle the
man. He did take a rather ordinary disk operating system and
parlay it into the worlds largest financial empire. Not bad for
a nerd.
Lard Assed Kids:
No one is to blame. That's what I heard an expert on ABC news
say. Others say the schools are to blame or McDonald's is to
blame. It's all bull. Many things make it easier for the kids
to be lard butts, but they do not force the kids to overeat and
under exercise. The truth is, only the parents are to blame.
Birthing a kid creates a responsibility. Part of that is the
responsibility for the kid's emotional and physical health. That's
just a small part of proper nurturing. The government cannot
do that and the schools can only reenforce it. The parents must
establish the basis for discipline and good health, mostly by
setting the example of good behavior. Most parents are too undisciplined
to do that. What do we expect of the kids with that kind of example?
Conversion Trans:
There is some kind of news bull about the trend in automobile
transmissions. They are saying, in the news, that the straight
stick freaks will not be able to buy a car with manual transmissions
anymore. Wanna bet! The auto makers also refused to make vans
the way the customers really wanted them. What happened? There
was a big bunch of small shops popping up like mushrooms. They
did conversions on standard vans. The same will happen with transmissions.
If enough people want sticks, entrepreneurs will establish shops
to take out automatics and put in sticks. It's business, that's
all!
Long Life:
We saw a lady on TV who became 100 years old. She attributed
it to her habits. She did not smoke, or drink, and I suppose
she does not pass gas in elevators either. I ask. what about
George Burns? He smoked and drank. I'm not there yet. I'm only
a childish 74, but I expect to get there even though I smoke
cigars and drink adequate amounts of wine and beer.
What I notice about the woman, and Burns was not their habits,
but their attitude. They were both outgoing, both happy, and
above all active. They were living life instead of waiting for
it to happen. They were interested in what was going on and in
what they themselves were doing. They were not sitting around
waiting for the guy with the scythe. They were ignoring him and
going with what they had. Attitude, that's all it is!
Mt. St. Helens:
Mother earth's rectum. It puts out raunchy clouds of eye burning
stuff over Washington state. I still think it should have happened
in Washington DC.
Federalist:
I am a federalist. Being a federalist does not mean advocation
all power and control to the feds. It means being able to understand
the natural divisions of power and control. Some things can only
be done at the federal level and they should be done there. Some
things should never be done at the federal level. Education is
a classic example. Education belongs to and is the responsibility
of the community. The feds should never attempt to control education.
We have seen what can happen with that in other foreign lands.
Education becomes indoctrination rather than education.
Educational financing, on the other hand, should be done at
the federal level. This is the only way we can insure equal opportunity
in education. The communities cannot do this because of economic
disparities. We cannot trust the states to do it either. Some
states, due to their governments, are dirt poor and likely to
remain that way. They are still being governed with a civil war
mentality. The feds could raise the money through a payroll tax
just like it's done with social security. Then they can allocate
it to the school districts based on student enrolment and nothing
else. The feds should never be in a position to control education
or even say what constitutes education. Those are functions of
the community.
Psychopathic Liar:
We usually tape and watch the Sunday morning Stephanopolous show
on ABC. We watch it during dinner. It's our substitute for stockcar
races, wrestling, and the like. Rice was on this last week, 10/03/04.
She gave the classic demonstration of a psychopathic liar. She
continued to lie even when she knew that George knew she was
lying. They just can't help it.
The Con Men Get Conned:
Some Michigan Indian casino operators are whining to the feds.
It seems they paid 66 million to a couple of con men to con Congress
for them. Instead, it seems the con men just took their money.
They didn't even know the Congressman they claimed they were
going to influence. The old trite truism remains. You cannot
con an honest person. The Indians tried to buy unwarranted favors
and got took instead. Are these the same noble savages who had
a monument built to them on the Mall? Break my heart!
Flu vaccine:
It's a good thing I got mine as soon as it was available. Now,
all of a sudden, there is about a 50% shortfall of the stuff.
One of the two companies that make it got closed down by the
British Government. What happened? How did it come about that
America's health system was depending on a company in England?
American government executed that stupidity while telling our
seniors they shouldn't buy drugs from Canada because they might
be dangerous. What an absolute fraud!
There should be a dozen companies in the USA making flu vaccine
and the planned supply should be twice what they think will be
needed. If we have to subsidize production that's okay. What
is not used could be thrown away or given to the third world.
That's okay. It is not okay to put our citizens at risk though
poor planning by inept government agencies. There should also
be research into better ways of making the vaccine. The government
should be leading the way on that. Instead, our government as
always just does business as usual.
