October 31, 2005:
Using Children:
More crap in Michigan. This time it is in Pinnconning. There
is a bond issue for the schools coming up. So what? So a political
activist teacher is using her elementary school kids to bully
the mayor on the bond issue. He is against it and has said so.
She is having the kids in her class send letters to the mayor.
The media was there and the kids read some of their letters.
It was clear to me, and should have been to Channel 12 news,
that the kids had not written those letters themselves. They
were written by an adult. I wonder who would do such a thing?
What about your state? Is the same kind of crap coming down?
Does your local media collude with the perpetrators as ours does?
Are you paying attention? I don't think Michigan is unique. It
is just where I happen to be and can observe the continuous dishonesty.
At it Again:
Now our Michigan legislators have a new gig. They want to give
all of the spammers and pedophiles in the world a list of our
children's e-mail addresses. They are trying to put through a
law to make a list like this public. They say they will punish
those who prey on anyone on this list. I got news. To punish
someone, you must have them in custody. How do you propose to
catch them?
Lexington Massachusetts:
The schools there have a new program wherein they are teaching
five year old kids that it's okay to be gays and lesbians. They
even have books to show the kids how some people live that way.
One person protested this teaching and the school "authorities"
got a court restraining order to keep him away from the schools.
I guess they didn't want him corrupting the minds of the kids
with democratic ideas. In that city, he has no right to protect
his kid from these madmen. Promoting emotional pathology is okay,
but democracy is another thing altogether. Bizarre, truly bizarre!
A Dress Code:
The NBA now has a dress code. The players have to wear real clothes
in public now. I'm not sure I approve of this idea. How in the
world will we be able to tell them from real human beings if
they dress like us?
Prison:
According to ABC news America has 2,267,000 people in prison.
The population of the U.S. on April 1, 2000 was 281,421,906.
That means about 1 out of every 125 people are in prison in America.
Compare that to the fact that we graduate 1 engineer for ever
3,750 citizens. I doubt if that 1 in 125 includes local lockups.
More than 25 percent of the prisoners are juveniles. Something
is radically wrong here! 2 million people are way to many people
te be in prison in any country, let alone a democratic country.
567,000 kids in prison is beyond the pale. What is going on?
Is this communist Russia or the United States, land of the free?
Do we really have that many criminals?
The Democrats again:
Some of the fools in the Senate were demanding that George state
what he would do if Rove or Libby were indited. I despise Rove
and Libby, but the Democrats are being just as stupid and unreasonable
as always. The President should not say anything about the case
while it is ongoing. He should only speak when he knows the facts,
which he did not at that time. It's no wonder these fools cannot
win an election. Actually, Libby was indicted and he had the
good sense to resign. George did not have to do anything. I doubt
if he will be so lucky with Rove. Rove is too dumb to do the
decent thing.
Wilson:
It was all about getting Wilson. All that terrible person did
is tell the truth about Iraq. When he did that, two senior White
House officials committed treason against the United States just
to get him. We will never prove that, but everyone knows that's
what it really was. They betrayed and exposed a covert operative
of our government. That is tantamount to treason. And yes, I
believe the Vice President was involved.
The Court:
I was sitting at my computer just now when Mrs' Gaffer walked
in and told me Miers withdrew her name from the Supreme Court
Nomination. I was surprised, but pleased. Good for her. Maybe
George will have enough sense to pick a qualified constitutional
conservative now. That would be good.
George:
Things are going bad for the man in the White House. His appearance
is showing it. It is a rare president who does not age visibly
in a couple of terms in that place. George the Elder was an exception.
George the Younger is not. It's not just grey hair and wrinkles.
The stress is telling in the color of his face. It used to be
healthy looking. Now it comes over as grey. Who in the world
would want a job that would do that to them?
Criminal Negligence:
I am a Ford retiree and as such I am currently covered by Ford's
drug plan. It is a good plan, much superior to anything Medicare
is offering. We get our scripts from our doctor and mail them
to this company called Medco. A few days later we get our 90
day supply of drugs. It's cheaper for us and cheaper for Ford.
It was win, win, until recently. Medco is allowed to substitute
generic drugs for name brand drugs. That's fine, but our last
drug delivery had substitutes without any information about what
they were substituted for. Mrs. Gaffer is an RN and she figured
it out. That's fine for me. What about the folks who do not have
a resident RN? Someone could die by taking the wrong drug at
the wrong time. They may call it an error or an attempt to be
more efficient. I call it criminal negligence.
Senior Friendly:
TV news again. There is some airline or other who wants to have
senior friendly airplanes. They were talking about all kids of
dumb things for seniors, but the missed the obvious. To have
a senior friendly airplane, every seat would have to be a very
comfortable toilet.
My Mistake:
And a big one at that. I jumper to an unwarranted conclusion
in my Weekly Notes of October 17, 2005. I posted a piece I called
Desperate Kids in which I criticized the administration and the
students of our local highschool. My tirade was based on a woman's
unsupported letter to the editor of our local paper. I made no
attempt to verify the information she presented. I am now convinced
she misrepresented the facts. That does not excuse me. I was
wrong.
The woman's letter was answered this week by a letter from
a student of the school. Whereas the woman's letter was strident
and accusatory, the student's reply was articulate, well reasoned,
and well researched. In retrospect, I suspect the woman who wrote
the first letter is nothing more than a holier-than-thou, primitive
minded religious fundamentalists of some kind who wants to prevent
all normal pleasure in the world. Perhaps we should feel sympathy
for her husband. Physical intimacy with her might be like trying
to be physically intimate with a hardwood plank. I should have
known the kids would be more honest, thoughtful, and reasonable
than the adults around them. Actually, I do know that. I just
forgot temporarily. My apologies to the students of the school.
